  Nov 2017 ManoelO
Mike Essig
Last night he was eighteen
when he fell asleep.

The darkness filled with
insubstantial events,
visions of women and war,
marriage, jobs, divorce,
disasters and recovery.

When he woke up he was 63.

Life is but a dream.
ManoelO Nov 2017
Strayed from lover sight
And buried a treasure
In the grains of my repressed memories
As I retreat from the treacherous lands
Still, she enchants the clouds
Subdued Poseidon
And commands the waves
To blow a mortal man to shore
To engender the emotion of lust
To weaken my lover ardor.

Absent from each other touch but not in mind,
Where truly time is infinite and only voice to
Excite the imagination and passion
I've placed into the union of our souls
Which dances to the dedication of love.

The song may dwindle but never fades.
My mind still placed on your lips
My eyes still gazed into yours,
As I wish to see my being through your eyes.

In a self-constructed loop
Within the swoop of 9 to 5
So much to lose
just to feel
Alive
Said I'll break free so many times
Peak through the lines
And see my lies
I only find the courage to
Write about it
Between
These
Lines.

Confined within our own love
Devoured us
While in our youth
The hours
The minutes
The seconds
The years
Passed
The beauty of age displayed
Portrait of wrinkled flesh
A lover museum

The journey of love
Through expressions.

How many times
I've said those lines
Countless of times
But you're  not mine
An innocent crime
Prisoner of mine
Your presence
Cannot escape
Between these
Lines.

The spirit enclosed in my flesh
As inflicted a longing that cannot
Be satisfied in the embrace of others
Riddled emotion as the guide
And dreams the mirage

Reality the voyage of a mortal man
Anchored by commitments
But to endure defeat is to
Embody
Death.
