I tasted sweetness
My mind wandered
you had the key
to the deepest chambers

Imagination created wolves
howling to the moon,
me, imitating them as
you tasted sweetness
(and success)

Flashes of primary colours
washed my thoughts
into a rainbow sliding
around to the next where we
would finally
both taste the sweetness

Dripping poetry
From every pore
Luscious skin
Oozing with love
As you walk
Across languidly
Moistening the floor
Every stanza
Adds more eloquence
To the heady concoction
Waiting to be consumed
Till the last drop
Each footstep
Creates an impression
On the heart
Graceful flutter
Of the heavy eyelashes
Seems an eternity
Stealthy criminal
Wants an open window
To sneak in
Through the pause
Slither between lines
Entwined to every word
A serpentine hold
On poetry beautiful
Trickling with sweet honey
Taste of immortality

richer than chocolate
sweeter than gumdrops
the glimmer in your eyes
tells me
I'll be fine

I could breed something, baby.
I could breed something hateful and disparaging.
But I rather not, tonight.
Tonight, I want to talk about the beauty.
Even if it keeps my keys wet,
I'll speak of it and get it out of my system.

I loved waking up next to you, holding you tight
and reminding you that you always had a big spoon,
even though deep down, I wished I was the little one.

I loved getting you presents I know you'd adore,
because it just reassured me I can still make you curve your lips
and be gifted by you.

I loved cooking you food you enjoy,
your stomach is an extension of your heart,
and boy, did I keep it warm.

I love how much I loved you.
I'll admire this and embrace the loss.
Feel the sweetness soothe my sores.

*One day it won't hurt so beautifully anymore,
and this will be the child I forgot how to adore.

You can have
All of my wishes.
I will bide my time
But I refuse to force myself to want
Something else
Just because I am afraid I will only ever want you.
Right now
You're it
And I am brave enough to embrace that.
You can have every wish my heart aches for.
By giving them to you
At least I've made the choice.
Sweetly
Gently
Tenderly
I wish
For you.

How I love your company
Love sitting here, just you, just me
In holding me you set me free
And in your arms I'm only me
svdgrl Oct 2014
I am a puddle for you to play in,
because you'll never spill my tears.
Your big eyes stare back at mine,
and I wish I could speak to you.
I'd promise you protection,
love and attention.
And by the way you lick and sidle up,
I know your intentions are the same.
See with puppies, there's no guessing,
there aren't games or deception.
You'll forgive me if I'm mad,
or lost and impatient.
As long as I pet you and keep you healthy,
you'll be my best friend.
No questions asked
nothing to defend.
And when I look in the mirror
and attempt to rip my collar off,
you'll be there sitting
with your head cocked to the side,
making me smile
when I want to cry puddles
for you to swim in.

He is my angel
God sent him when I was at my worst
And he helped me to stand up again.

He is my life saver
He treats me the way I want to be treated
And he makes my heart beats again.

He is my babe
He fills my lungs with sweetness
And he fills my head with him.

He is my best friend
He can talk to me for hours
And he can always makes me laugh.

He is my lover
He loves me the way I love him
And he doesn't wanna lose me the way I don't wanna lose him.
may your love illumine
like the sun
the darkness that lurks
in my heart

may your love quench
my thirst
I have never experienced
the sweetness of love
until now

Shucking peas on the back steps
Maureen and I watch her Mum,
My Aunt Grace,
Arguing with Aunt Edna
In the kitchen
The narrow kitchen
Of number 84 Truro Road
As they whip a Sunday lunch into shape
A test match drones on the radio
The aroma of mint on new spuds teases.
It’s a modest roast
Served in the tiny parlor
To nine of us!
Eating elbow to elbow
With yellow handled knives and forks
Down to the bare porcelain
Waiting for the apple pie
with Libby’s.
That crust, with sugar sprinkles
Is a lifetime goal for me!
Inspired by Seamus Heaney's poem about watching his mother peel potatoes, and written for the 90th Birthday of my Aunt Grace, who represents her name so well. Test match means a five day cricket match, probably against Australia. Libby's is a brand of sweetened condensed milk. A treat in the fifties when cream was a luxury.
