Ain't no feeling like the holidays
A perfect winter getaway
When you don't wanna leave
and just wanna stay
And a cup of hot cocoa
And the heat of the stove
Ain't that feeling grand

On this cold winter hue
I'll write a cold winter blues
Something for me and you
Come let us heat up the room
Just you and me
Just you and me
Right by the Christmas tree

Absorbing dust and Golden heat,
living more openly than I do,
he shimmies to Billie Holiday

The year is not 1957, though
he lives in a San Francisco fog
longing to play the piano

The time in not 11:57pm, though
he orders a ***** martini & swims
in the fishbowl bay

Escaping to Telegraph Hill
to drink moonlight jazz & vermouth
he pretends to live

Way back when

I haven't wrote a poem in 2 years!
Josephine Zecena Nov 2017
I clench my fist tight.
So dearly trying not to cave in and dial, but the device taunts me.
That Pandora's box full of the emotions, images, and echoes that drench me like rain.

It seems the pages have run out.
Every excuse, every apology, every sweet nothing drained like the battery on my phone due to the over use to distract me from you.

You, sitting there on your shelf.
With your legs dangling and hitting my face. Swelling my eyes and lips shut as you watch my greatest regrets play repeatedly in my mind.
Making me unrecognizable to those around me now.

This is who I've become.
A silent shell filled with the echoes of your laughs and smiles.
With only melancholy music to comfort me.
The world around me only now visible through rain soaked glasses.
Smooth jazz by Coleman Hawkins as it rains outside my window is the only thing that brings me comfort. The only realm I find my weary soul comforted by.

Smiling, you bless every day,
A regular Louis I might say.
A jazz musician with a giant heart ,
Letting all who come take part.

Join the music! Jump in the sway!
Hear that jazz musiscian play.
Hit the notes by the lamplight friend,
Until with the night our revel ends.
Just a little bit I dedicated to a friend. X) Gotta love Louisiana culture!

A horn in jazz is a lot like a heart.
At times it blares it's loudest in love.  19

At times a pin drops in silence.
The neighbors won't complain. 14

I never thought God to be a fan of blues.
My ears like an open door.  17

We dance to music only you can hear
under the pinprick sky

The air crisp and cool
the beginning of a season
prompting our closeness to embrace away the cold

You twirl me around through the garden
bringing me away and towards
in serpentine motion

I almost trip
but your arms are there to catch me
I stop looking at my feet and gaze up to the night
see the half-moon shining
High
just like you

We start humming a jazz standard
Sinatra
You know more of the words than I do

"Fly me to the moon, and let me play among the stars..."

We hold hands
your cold fingertips past your cutoff glove
warming in mine
walking in time
to the song
so involved in the melody that the lyrics keep on flowing and I know it's only a song and you were ****** and I was sleepy but still
you said (sung) it

"In other words: I love you."
starry nights out in nature with good company are the best

monk jumps
trinkle ****** trane
criss crossin time
aboard idiocentric planes

whacky Hackensack moods
near my mysterioso home
round bout midnight gleaning
brilliant corner poems

hummin blue monk blues
i surrender dear
Bemsha swing cast away
Friday the 13th fears

melancholy ruby swigs
straight no chaser shots
just let's cool one
at the red hot 5 Spot

rollins and griffin jammin
hudson riverside house
Weehawken royalty bows
to a spiffy charlie rouse

we remember mintons
a vast creative flood
monk be boppin on stage
when in walked bud

red rooster clucksters
raising town hall roofs
consecrating spaces playing
Monk's hallowed tunes

"pianos don't play no wrong notes"
we heard Thelonious once say
his utterances on the upright keys
ingenious music maestro on display

love is not so logical
no no
it is not
otherwise you'd never
wish to touch it
a fire burning hot

with the only hope
of touching
for even a moment
the beauty
that lies in the light within
