do dogs have choices
do we i think of old gods
were we free or pets

I've got a spot,
out there in the yard
It can sit, it can stay
But playing fetch is hard

I've got a spot,
where I like to spend my days
It takes naps in the sunshine
and together we laze

I've got a spot,
it can't run, it can't jog
But it's a very good spot
I think I'll call it Dog.
Dog is great and all, but someday, maybe we'll have a real Spot. And we can take it for walks, and play lots of games. In the meantime I'll have to live vicariously through others. So please post more poems about your goofy, fluffy, adorable or grumpy puppies. <3

There was a black and white dog who wore a Mickey Mouse symbol on her back
Had pointy ears and a buttoned nose
Always down to cuddle, lazy days are her favorite in fact.
She is the size of a football
But has confidence the size of a Great Dane
Whom she will try to attack, if he gets to close to our lawn.
I don’t think she realizes that she’s the perfect size for a mid-day snack.
Protecting our house is her priority
Even though she won’t win an attack.
If you'd known it would hurt me, you wouldn't have done it
There's no way you'd want me to cry,
You wouldn't just leave, like a bolt from the blue,
without saying Goodbye.
You knew that I loved you, you knew that I cared
You knew I would always be true
But now you are gone and I'm feeling quite scared
and I really don't know what to do.
I'll love you forever, I'll miss you for longer
you'll always be here in my heart
But time's a great healer and soon I'll be stronger
instead of just falling apart.

Taking my dog to the canal
Its tea coloured peace
Resting behind the town
He noses in nettles
Relieves himself on bluebells
As I eye the bridge's span

Towards its apex
Crushed beneath the roadway
A sapling reaches out
I look closer
Its lignified limb squashed flat
Emerging arthritic
Unfurling green fingers
In a  hopeful
Reaching last

I comprehend the wall
Council funded murals
Darter dragonfly, pipistrelle bat
King fisher
Washed over stone
Pale compensation
For nature entombed

He’d waited and waited

And waited some more—

He’d waited a day

And then three-sixty-four.

When it finally came ‘round,

Like a kick to the keister—

He put on his ears,

And bellowed, “IT’S EASTER!”

He ran out to hunt,

Not squirrels, but eggs—

And sniffed out a few,

Then lifted his leg.

He soiled his stash,

And though it was funny,

He knew he’d have beef

With one Easter Bunny

in this moment
laying here
with a little dog
i am okay

sometimes things that you love
will let go
before you are ready to let go
i am not ready to let go

but

in this moment
i lay with a little dog
and she tells me
to let go

i let go
and i am okay

i am a dog that is so angry he cannot eat
or sleep
or breathe.
