My Dear Poet Apr 2021
I’m writing a poem
and I need a rhyme with ‘Cat’
but nothing kiddy
like ‘Sat’ or ‘Mat’
Something long
like a Cadillac
something for change
like a laundromat
Something as strong
as an acrobat
Something as rich
as an aristocrat
Something as catchy
as a copycat
Yet something
simple
something
clean
Something like that
If you know what I mean
Any suggestions? :P

I lie on the bed
trying to read Bukowski
resting my head on the headboard
which is stupid because
just below is a pile of sumptuous pillows
my cat comes purring
like a V8 ticking over
settling on my chest
he wants love and attention
and I have a kind of affinity with him
abandoned by his mother as a kitten
mine stopped loving me
when she found out I wasn’t the girl she wanted
and had a *****
and a disgusting boy’s brain
so I stroke him
wondering how it feels
to have someone run your hand
down your body continuously
never really having been hugged
two broken souls
from two different worlds
give each other something
of what is missing in their lives
even the pain of a wooden headboard
is bearable
more bearable than never being loved
I have several things left to pack:
First, the old grey jumper.
Second, a dusty photo album.
Third, that China plate from the kitchen.

Moving through to the hallway,
I swivel on the spot.
The cat eyes me from the stairs,
Swishing his tail left to right.

I gesture to him: In childlike voice
"Don't worry I won't be leaving you".

Boxes laid at my feet, I fumble about.
What a life;
You spend most of it collecting junk;
And then you realise,
What an earth are you going to do with it all?

Leave it behind?
Chuck it away?
Chuck it away, leave it behind?
A disastrously difficult decision!
We are all sentimental someway.

The smell of cooked beef wafted from the kitchen.
Ah, home cooked meals.
I suppose it'll be takeaways soon.
Until we've settled in of course.

It's really real now isn't it?
Like a punch of reality,
Slapping you in the face.
Mixed emotions,
A bit like Sunday: You enjoy it but know that Mondays coming.

Gently, I stroked my cat.
Amongst the purring:
There came a sudden realisation,
That I had not started my list yet.

My Cat slept a lot today
It's not an unusual thing
He was asleep when I went out
And asleep when I came in

The Whiskers twitch, the tail flicks
Perhaps a playful dream
Oh he's awake! No. Just turned round
The laziest cat I've seen!

Cat
Comfort me always
Add cheerful in many ways
To stay besides me
Hello. This is my first English poem on Hello Poetry. I'm still learning.

people won't understand how much you mean to me,
they won't be able to comprehend why i love you this much,
they wouldn't be able to push through behind their common perception of someone like you,
that you're nothing but a mere house pet.

to me, you're my family.
to me, you're my safe place.
to me, you're the one who takes all the pain away.
you're my baby and i'd do anything for you.

please don't leave me too soon.
i have so many things planned for the both of us.
we're still going to have a blast on your first birthday, right?
so hold on, please hold on for a very long time, my dear tootsie.

i know this is too much to ask, probably way too selfish of me to ask.
but, i hope i'm enough reason for you to stick around.
i'm not the best fur parent but, do know i try my hardest.
i have one thing to ask of you, try your hardest to stay alive and breathing.

black cats hunting mice
on a concrete alley --
   night sight revealed
My fat furball
Lift your head up when I call
You used to be so small
I can still recall
You used to be so light
And give me a gentle bite
You are my only knight
With you, I'll be alright
My little knight
