I wonder,
is it the flowers we plant,
or the ones we pick that define us?

Transitions
Forced upon our psyche's
From treading water
To riding lightning
The changes can be
Somewhat frightening

Spent my days
In a cage
Fighting off a world of rage
Stronger and stronger
I became
Desensitized and now I'm lame
Smote I did to survive
Just to live another life
Where truth is hidden
In despair
I can never truly be free
From there...

Pop me open
and take look in the trunk.

See that I travel light
but with excess junk.

Too deep in this
I’ve indulgently sunk.

It’s what got me so drunk.
It’s what got me in such a funk.

Moon’s light pierces the mist
Giving hope that shadow’s embrace
Can be escaped

Making me believe I was unworthy
This was the most unkindest cut of all
Wanting to please, I gladly take the fall
Shamed to the core, I feel deeply *****
Seeking self-acceptance, I take love’s journey
I cling to the shadows, feeling most appalled
Making me believe I was unworthy
This was the most unkindest cut of all
Can I forgive and show myself mercy?
And not hit my head against the hard wall?
I long for the light, still I feel *****
Making me believe I was unworthy
This was the most unkindest cut of all

This was a challenge to take a quote from Shakespeare and write a poem either incorporating it within the poem or just writing what the quote inspires.  Please feel free to take the challenge
She stands where the river blows her hair wild

no youth and no favor for her
no hands to clean the salt licks on her skin
her palms are dreams wrinkled dry
yet craving an offer.

You come from a distant land, she says,
heavens bless you.

I got no small change, I respond,
my mind drifts to ponder,

a small change, I need that too,
always hungered for
and faltered through
like I missed the vessel narrowly
to be on the river's other side.

Maybe when I come back,
I turn toward her.

She was gone.

I despise myself for not being someone you could love.
now
some people want things
to last forever,
but forever does not even
last forever
and nothing lasts for all
eternity.
so i'll let you have my now
if you let me have yours.
and if our nows don't
work forever, like everything
in this world,
you'll have had my then
whilst i'll have had yours.
it's ephemeral,
but it's beautiful.

She was like music,
and I longed to dance.

Her heart was the beat,
and I begged for the chance.

Her words were the vocals,
and I was put in a trance.

Her smile was the melody,
and I fell in love at first glance.
