You finish off my sentences
You help complete my thoughts
Although we are quite different
"I'm an x,  and you're a nought"
My life is full because of you
And the one thing that we've got
Is that we are quite different
You play "x"s, I play "noughts"
Together we're a power house
A team that knows it's way
But, separate, we're unorganized
That can't get through the day
We make each other better when
One is cold and one is hot
It's because we are quite different
You play "x"s, I play "noughts"
If the game should ever change
And we went a different way
I don't know how I'd make it
I'd not know just what to play
I wake up every morning knowing
You're there to be in all my thoughts
It's because we are so different
You play "x"s, I play noughts.
What
kind
of
boat
do
you
need
to
go
yardsailing?
Cases of old records sat
Waiting for someone to buy
Along with mismatched tea cups
And plates as blue as sky

Vultures jumped at everything
Leaving cars running in park
Picking through the yard sale scraps
Like a raccoon in the dark

Bickering for savings
Saying a quarter is too much
I'll only pay a nickel
To buy a broken crutch

Ice skates, ball gloves, baseball hats
tossed and thrown around the yard
To watch these jackals fighting
Over a half pound piece of lard

It's amazing that one's treasures
Are reduced to blobs of crap
By bargain hunters set to pay
For unused Christmas wrap

They jostle and they tussle
To get close for a deal
They try to bundle things together
To them....it is a steal

You smile, take their money
Tell them thank you, as they shriek
Over deals they think that they have got
On stuff...they'll sell next week!!
You can't go back

That's what people say

You can't go back

You're here to stay

The past is past

What's gone is gone

Yesterday's another day

You can't go back

Try visiting a place you've lived

It isn't quite the same

The people who now live here

Don't even know your name

The house seems smaller

It could be a game

But going back to where you lived

It'll never be the same

You can't go back

That's what people say

You can't go back

You're here to stay

The past is past

What's gone is gone

Yesterday's another day

You can't go back

You drive by your old high school

The memories all come

But, all of them are fuzzy

You can't quite remember one

The streets are much more busy

You know your past is done

As you drive by your old high school

And you know your past is done

But listen to the music

From the times so far away

You're thirteen at the senior dance

When you hear the music play

It takes you back to where you were

Many light years from today

You close your eyes and listen hard

You're seventeen again

That drum beat and guitar riff

Take you back to who knows when

They say you can't return there

But your mind, in time will bend

To take you back to somewhere

You can go to once again

You can't go back, or so they say

Just go back in your mind

The music took you there today

It 's time that is unkind

To see things as they are right now

You wish that you were blind

But, listen to the music

And you can go back in your mind

You can't go back

That's what people say

You can't go back

You're here to stay

The past is past

What's gone is gone

Yesterday's another day

You can't go back

I go back in time each day

The music takes me there

I go back though they say I can't

I know it isn't fair

But, going back reminds me

Of things and how I care

It shows me all the things I love

The music takes me there...
Don't come round here flirtin'
If you haven't got the game
If you can't deliver
I don't want to know your name

Sending drinks and cutesy smiles
Don't go too far round here
You'd better send at least two shots
And at least a jug of beer

You'd better bring your "A" game buddy
Cause sometimes it gets  ******
Don't leave your "A" game on the shelf
Cause you'll go home all by yourself

You'd better give as well as get
Now you're in the south
Our cougars here aren't like those up north
Our girls ...they give good mouth

They've heard it all a million times
Don't come with a cheap line
They don't drink things with flowers in
And they don't drink cheap boxed wine

You'd better bring your "A" game buddy
Cause sometimes it gets ******
Don't leave your "A" game on the shelf
Cause you'll go home all by yourself

They're barracudas in this bar
They've got teeth, and they will use 'em
So, buddy you'd best be on your game
Or you won't go home a twosome

Our women here get treated special
And son, they're mighty proud
Look at someone elses woman
And they get mighty loud

You'd better bring your "A" game buddy
Cause sometimes it gets  ******
Don't leave your "A" game on the shelf
Cause you'll go home all by yourself
you have to feed the devil
deep inside your soul
no matter your addiction
no matter how you roll
you have to feed the devil
you have to fill the empty hole
you have to feed the devil
deep inside your soul

cold turkey, gonna **** ya
with pain you've never seen
you're dancing with the devil
you never will get clean
don't try to win this battle
he's the best that's ever been
you've got to feed the devil
you never will get clean

welcome to the nightmare
the darkness, some say hell
have a drink, or needle
you never will get well
once you hit the bottom
you'll know how far you fell
welcome to the nightmare
the darkness, this is hell

you have to feed the devil
deep inside your soul
no matter your addiction
no matter how you roll
you have to feed the devil
you have to fill the empty hole
you have to feed the devil
deep inside your soul

feed the monster, keep him quiet
you won't like him if he's mad
you have to feed the devil
he's really good when things are bad
you have to keep him sleeping
let him lie still in his pad
you have to feed the monster
you won't like him when he's mad

play your cards, and pick your poison
he don't care which one you choose
you're addiction is what fuels him
and either way you lose
it's no longer such a gamble
baby needs some brand new shoes
play your cards and pick your poison
'cause either way you lose
play your cards and pick your poison
'cause either way you lose
Are you thinking of another
While you're lying here with me
Is your mind out there cheating
wishing it were free
free to love another
while we lay here once again
Your body is here with me
But, your mind, it is with him

you came to me from someone else
you cheated once before
you thought of me while with him
because you wanted more
I gave you all I have to give
But, I know I've lost you to
Someone who thinks he's the one
And who knows not what you do

In all our time together
Were you cheating in your mind
Was I just a passing fancy
Until another you would find
Is the game the expectation
of what you'll get next time through
When you told me that you loved me
How much of that was true

You're cheating and I see it
There's no passion anymore
Am I a notch upon your bedpost
Adding one more to the score
Are you thinking of another
when you lie here in my bed
I may have you now in body
But I don't in heart or head

Are you thinking of another
While you're lying here with me
Is your mind out there cheating
wishing it were free
free to love another
while we lay here once again
Your body is here with me
But, your mind, it is with him
Are you my happy ever after?

A picture paints a thousand words
At least that;s what they say
But, tell me just what is the word
That will make you want to stay

Together, we're a story book
With chapters not yet finished
Our life is full of tales to tell
And my love will not dimish

If I am your happy ending
You must be my Once Upon a time
The book is still a tad unwritten
But, we have the time
I'm your happy ending
Your'e my once upon a time
A book that is worth reading
Of your love and of mine

The things you do excite me
Make me laugh and make me cry
I can't explain the feeling
I just can't tell you why

I'm so **** glad I found you
You're the ending to my book
I believe in second chance
I'm glad you took another look

If I am your happy ending
You must be my Once Upon a time
The book is still a tad unwritten
But, we have the time
I'm your happy ending
Your'e my once upon a time
A book that is worth reading
Of your love and of mine
Sitting in  my alleyway
I watch people every day
They see me in my cardboard box
I hear the things they say

It used to bother me, but now
I just let them look and pass
I used to beg for their spare change
But, now I do not ask

I think that as they pass on by
It's my situation that they see
Homeless, living in the cold
They're not seeing me

Some stop, and stare in silence
They don't have the words to say
they see just what they want
While others turn away

Some who pass, they cross the road
On to the other side
They'd rather think I don't exist
Although it's here that I reside

I think that as they pass on by
It's my situation that they see
Homeless, living in the cold
They're not seeing me

If you ask, I'll answer
I'm a man, I have a voice
Although I'm in this alley
I am here by my own choice

Alternatives are out there
But they are not for me
Remember, it's my situation
Not the man I am you see
I've questions to ask you
Things I need to know
I want to be with you
I don't want you to go

Are these roles we are playing
Or are we as shown
Do I believe what you're saying
Or is the truth still unknown?

Relationships keep changing
Are we lover or friend?
As our life's rearranging
We continue to bend

I've questions to ask you
Things I need to know
I want to be with you
I don't want you to go

Are we stronger together?
Or does one pull the load?
Are you only fair weather?
Because that's how you showed

There is better still waiting
I'm moving on with my life
I'm just too tired for hating
To be your now sometime wife

I've questions to ask you
Things I need to know
I want to be with you
I don't want you to go

The questions aren't needed
For the answers they'll bring
Have all been conceded
And they won't mean a thing

Once you realize your error
And you wake up alone
Of this news I'm the bearer
Don't you dare try and phone!!
For a friend , and is one of the strongest people I know.
If I become unfocused
Because my day's been bad
You bring me back to earth with just a smile
No matter your misfortune
Or how far away I seem
You center me again with a small smile

When misfortune rears it's ugly head
Or the washer's on the blink
You bite your lip, and out comes that **** smile
No matter what your pain is
Or the fact the car won't start
You brush it all away, and then you smile

There's a light inside your eyes
That blazes hotter than a sun
It holds me here, I cannot get away
That light shines even brighter
When I walk into the room
I love you, and that's all I know to say

Your smile holds me hostage
It says it all, but not a word
That smile, shows me just exactly how you feel
It makes my day worth living
Knowing what's waiting at the end
Your smile, makes me know our love is real

It's a standard I cling on to
It's the rock that keeps me still
That smile and the love I know it shows
It's the reason I am living
My rainbow ending treasure
That smile, keeps me strong through out lifes lows

There's a light inside your eyes
That blazes hotter than a sun
It holds me here, I cannot get away
That light shines even brighter
When I walk into the room
I love you, and that's all I know to say

The tree that we both planted
When we started out this life
Makes me smile, when I think of it's tough start
How we planted a small twiglet
And how it grew strong over time
It's our tree, grown from deep inside our heart

I miss you dear so badly
I don't know how I can go on
Your smile, burns so bright inside my brain
It took you oh so quickly
Two quick months and you were gone
So, I smile, knowing you are not in pain

There's a light inside your eyes
That blazes hotter than a sun
It holds me here, I cannot get away
That light shines even brighter
I feel you in this empty room
I still love you, and that's all I know to say
Kids grown up, they've both moved out

They have families of their own

Now you're just empty nesters

All you do is sit and moan

You've reached  the demarkation point

Where your lives go separate ways

You both would like the other gone

You're both counting the days

At first you were the world to me

I meant all that I said

But now that thirty years have passed

You're worth more to me dead

You're both insured like crazy

The house is free and clear

Did I mention, there's a pension?

These are all that you hold dear

We no longer share vacations

You have your friends, I have mine

And it seems when we're together

Al we do is bide our time

At first you were the world to me

I meant all that I said

But now that thirty years have passed

You're worth more to me dead

We still have ***, but not together

We both eat, but never dine

We live as singles, although married

You've your friends and I have mine

When you sleep, I check your breathing

Just to see if you're alive

I want you dead, but I won't **** you

I just think of things you won't survive

At first you were the world to me

I meant all that I said

But now that thirty years have passed

You're worth more to me dead

I used to love you more than ever

For our two kids, it's you I thank

But now that love is for another

That love is for what's in your bank

We have no interests left worth sharing

When we're alone we make no sound

You know that we just want the other

In a box six feet below the ground

At first you were the world to me

I meant all the things  that I said

But now that thirty years have passed

You're worth  much more to me dead

At first you were the world to me

I meant all the things  that I said

But now that thirty years have passed

You're worth  much more to me dead
You've got to be set to take the losses
If you gamble just to win
You've got to accept defeat at times
That's the way it's always been
You have to know that life's a gamble
And be set to take one on the chin
You've got to know how to take a loss
To learn how to take the win

Be it sports, or work or love
You're bound to lose some time
To got through life with out defeat
To not have lost one dime
No one wins at everything
Being perfect is a crime
You have to learn to lose for fun
For that's the reason to this rhyme

You can't always be a winner
You have to lose to move ahead
If you can't afford the lesson
Then you'd best just stay in bed
Life is what you make it
It's only over when you're dead
If you can't afford the losses
Then you'd better stay in bed

A winner doesn't gamble
His mindset is the win
It doesn't always happen
And therein lies the sin
A winner know the odds when
He should start to be again
A winner doesn't gamble
A true loser doesn't win

If you can't afford the losses
Then get out of the game
People will destroy you
They don't want to know your name
There's been others here before you
And they all end up the same
If you can't afford the losses
Then you'd best not play the game

You've got to be set to take the losses
If you gamble just to win
You've got to accept defeat at times
That's the way it's always been
You have to know that life's a gamble
And be set to take one on the chin
You've got to know how to take a loss
To learn how to take the win
I remember helping bake
With my Granny....Elisie Boone
She always said
Whoever makes the mess
Gets to lick the spoon

I always liked to help her
I'd go see her every week
I liked that saying more than
Turn the other cheek

Granny always turned a phrase
And whistled a sweet tune
And whenever I helped make a mess
I got to lick the spoon

Time passed and my Grannies gone
But one thing still has clicked
whoever makes the mess still has
To make sure the spoon gets licked

Whether in the kitchen
making cookies or a cake
or ******* up with something else
I don't care what it may take

If you're the one who made the mess
you get what you deserve
It's your **** job to lick the spoon
No matter what gets served

Good advice, it don't come cheap
But good advice ....it stays
And lick the spoon is good advice
From back in grannies days

It doesn't matter what happened
I don't care how it tastes
You made the mess, now lick the spoon
Good advice don't go to waste

I still think of my granny
When I whistle that sweet tune
Remember, boy...you made the mess
Now...you've got to lick the spoon!

— The End —
