Loveless
You swore you would always come back for me.
Here I am, still holding on to that promise,
Though the hope has started to disintegrate,

When you leave, the rain never stops pouring,
Or is it my tears that won’t seem to cease,
Your absence is like a knife slowly twisting,
The blood dripping out has all my memories,
Memories tainted with you,
Time has stopped
As if it has malicious intent,
With neither time not fate on our side,
How could we possibly hope to fly?

Every time I close my eyes, I smell your scent,
I know you feel it too,
This undeniable pull,
The need to have you is so strong,
I feel breathless..

There is no light in you,
I’d fall into the darkest depths of despair with you,
I’d let you taint me.
I only ever wanted to stand in your shadow anyway.

Will we meet in shady groves;
Upon a hill? Perhaps in morning.
In hidden vines of deepest green… Does day break?
We spool in canopies as the world beyond awakes;
Cocoons of fragrant freshness. So here I sit and of you I wish.

Will we meet in times of woe;
Under streets beveiled? Perhaps in mourning.
The well-worn cobbles ache terribly, my dear, let us go inside
A yellow cigarette crushed against the glass; I burn for tenderness and see
It in your eye. So there you sway and beneath you I lay.

Will your face be one I know;
Past veils of spidersilk? Perhaps, my darling.
This well-worn world aches terribly, let us make our own
From shady grove to comforts home; an empire on the hill.
Lifetime passes in an eyeblink. So with you I hide
Til our tender world’s first sunrise.

You held me like I was the only thing you needed in order to start living
7 kisses
On the first date, laughter was shoved so far down our throats, no one could remove that happiness if they tried
7 more weeks
Before the first "I love you" escaped from your cracked lips, in a whisper so quiet I was afraid your words would break in the air
7 hours
Laying with you, tangled limps, tracing the universe on your back, the pads of my fingers placed my world in your hands
7 dates missed
I guess I no longer existed because now you stand at a distance and I can't even hear your voice over the phone anymore
7 screaming fights
Swears across the room, hands in the air, tears hit the floor, while our love is getting torn at the seems and the corners are quickly folding in on us
7 feet
Away from me as I watched you look at her, I know that look because I used to get that look from the same pair of eyes that belong to you and are now looking at her. You're flashing a smile that could make planets separate and somehow I have to come to terms with the fact that smile no longer belongs to me.
7 minutes
How long you took to break my heart with tidal waves in my eyes as I'm on my knees begging you to stay. My lungs no longer remember the taste of air, my hands shake like they did the first time you looked at me. My lips no longer remember the taste of your kiss all I taste is acid from thinking about you touching her with the same hands you used to hold me.

This is a very personal poem about my first relationship, so many feelings are plastered into this poem I hope you can find some you relate to.

My bones click
As I tediously live
day in and day out
through every gasp of breath
shocking my dyspeptic nerve endings
As the clock stares me down
With no escape
I know how this ends
Fall leaves bring
Winters of snow
In a continuous cycle
Playing in my head

As a footnote, I’ve always held a certain regard for those plentiful fruits. Raspberries. Small and juicy and sweet. Quick and easy.

Now, it’s apples on the other hand I heavily despise.

To eat an apple is to make a commitment. Society generally frowns upon those who eat half an apple, just to toss out the rest. And most people are not exactly bargaining for your leftovers once they’re brown and teeth marked. Apple eating is a long and rigorous ordeal. Halfway through, the raw parts begin to stain or dry and when you’re finally finished, you’ve still got to deal with that core and the skin that’s stuck in your teeth. Herein, apples and commitments become synonymous. Convenience, the antonym.

Raspberries, however, are miniature, and zesty, and only last for a matter of seconds.

**Not unlike ideal high school relationships.
