Fifteen, I thought he was mine, fifteen he made me his, eighteen I am my own, eighteen I made me mine. I loved him like there was nobody else in the world simply because he told me there was not. Eighteen I knew, even if there was only me and him, I would rather love me.
"and I called it love."

We have a lot of love to give
But have to spread it thin
For just as one is turned around
It seems two more come in

If they stay here for too long
We see their hope begin to fail
Curled up in the corner
Eyes downcast, no waggy tail

Many tears have fallen down
For those who come to us alone
But you can turn a life around
By giving one a home

Remembering all the good work done by animal rescue centres, especially many tears animal rescue (manytearsrescue.org),  where we found our dog over 3 years ago. It is not only the dogs and other animals we feel for, but also the staff.

Every time when I want to let you go,
I think back to the times when we were close,
And the house was filled with hope.

The Girl Who Loves You
Say my name
Say it gently
Use your words
To caress me
Speak your thoughts
Speak them out loud
Confess your love
Amidst the crowd
Scream your wishes
Scream your dreams
Make your reality
Better than it seems
Whisper your pain
Whisper your fears
Release the tension
Wipe away your tears
Open your mind
Open up wide
Let my love in
Let me inside

It's hard to write a poem
When there's nothing going on
It's hard to think of what to say
When you've given most of it away

As poets we never scratch the surface
We delve within, disclose our deepest sin
We crave our pain, declare it's for our art
Yet more often than not have no idea where to start

But start we do and start we must
A deep desire in all of us
To spill out on the written page
What little bit we have tried to save

Ink now is the poets blood
Fragments of self pour from within
Silence is our safety net
To stop us from bleeding out

Although it's hard to write a poem
With nothing going on
We still find words to form a verse
From deep within our marrow bone

You want to know why I flinch?
You want to know why I scream?
Because at home I'm flinching away from someone grabbing my hair.
Because at home I'm screaming when I'm getting hurt or about to be.

I don't expect you to understand how much it hurts having you hair pulled so many times.
I don't expect you to understand how much it hurts to be hurt so many times.

Because your life hopefully doesn't involve the need to flinch.
Because your life hopefully doesn't involve the need to scream unless it's gleeful.
Now you know why I flinch.
Now you know why I scream.
