I've sent letters,
but, she waits.
One letter received,
in it, she states:
I'm not your meal
so discard the plates;
your silver wears me down;
so do your dates.

Into my lair
I solemnly hide,
in token despair
with no wondrous bride,
and down in the gutter,
whilst churning the butter,
the demons do mutter:
my mind's open wide.

I take a vacation
to find some elation,
but lo and behold
I find her there, old!
How is it I'm mired
in paradox transpired
how could she have waited
till she grew old, vacant?
Inspired by current events.
Veiled in mystery by the passion of my pen.
These words pain vents.
My history from here all to then.

Enjoy!

DEW
All are cast upon life's Seas
All have cares and doubt
We can freeze at 0°
Or we can Scream & Shout

The Tempest tears at our proud sails
The waves crash on our decks
The winds wail, our strength can fail
And we can end up wrecks

Caught between two destinies
The Scylla and Charybdis
The devil and the deep blue sea
The malstrom comes to haunt us

But... avast there, mate! It's not your fate!
There asleep upon your lee
Is God so great, He's never late!
And he can calm the sea!

Have you heard? He has awoken!
He's not in the grave!
Tho we are broken, He has spoken!
He's Ruler of the waves!

So do not fear the hurricanes
For as sure as I was born
Tempests wane, in sad refrain
Before the

Maker of the Storm

As far as eyes can see
There is distance
The ***** of the world fading from view
Failing as love
I fade from you
There are horizons
Where the sun never rises
The moon in its many disguises
Unwelcomed as night sets
Pocked marked by meteors
As far as eyes can see
There is black and white
The color lost in shades of grey
Indescribable definitions
With no clear line
As far as eyes can see
There is no meaning
And no reason
Only skin that doesn't care as much to feel
And pain that's becoming all too real

You will meet clouds of people
Who enjoy you superficially
Give you moments of forgettable memories

You will meet stars of people
Who shine bright in your life
Touch your soul
Share their sparkle
And inspire you to be more

But If you open yourself to our universe

You may even meet the moon
Who will completely
Change your outlook on life
Who will light up your soul
Share her elegance
Reflect her vision
And feed your spirit

I stood flat-footed upon an eroding hill

Here the sweet peas, on tip-toe for a fight
With wing of coarsest black o'er delicate night
And spiteful fingers grasping at all beauty
To bind us all in deeds unworthy

Oh, toxic wind and fertile rain
Disperse the fragrance of this pain
In healing gardens root a seed
Sprout the bliss we sorely need

This tiny pulse of life we hold
Thrives in soil tilled with love
And tender vines create a bower
Of sweet pea tended, brought to flower

I stand bare foot on an erupting volcanic mount

Here the sweet peas, on tip toe for a flight
With wing of justice verity o’er delicate sight
And nails that compassionately snowball serenity
To bind us all with concord and altruism

Oh, acidic rain share the tears
Wash thy tainted eye-sight
Then crux us in the high-yield land
As we germinate to heaven’s height

The seed so robust and fertile
A shell encased with human forms
The greenness of reflected sextile
Oh Sweet pea, our mirrored storm

Inspired by a stanza from Keats' poem:

I stood tip-toe upon a little hill

Here are sweet peas, on tip-toe for a flight:
With wing of gentle flush o’er delicate white,
And taper fingers catching at all things,
To bind them all about with tiny rings."
I wrote the intro line and first three stanzas, Sassy J the second intro line and last three stanzas.

It was truly a pleasure to work with Sassy J - master of flow and cosmic rhyme.  Her quick mind, sense of social justice, huge heart, and loving soul make her a must-read if you don't know her work already.  Thank you, my special "sweet pea", for suggesting the topic and wanting to work with me!

The sweet pea *(lathyrus odoratus)* derives its name from the Greek word lathyros *(pulse)* and the Latin word odoratus *(fragrant)*.
Sweet peas symbolize bliss or delicate pleasure, they are often given as a thank you.

Little Bear
do you think you'll ever lay her to rest?
allow her to sleep?
she's stayed awake for months on end
and every time she tried to close her eyes
you shook her awake
again

telling just one more tale
one more tall story
one more lie
that we must all
simply listen to

listen to this little ditty
i'm sure you'll recall it
once i'm done
do you remember the time we...?
no.. not really..

without sleep
all she sees are hallucinations
disjointed recollections
of the tissue paper life
that blows..

in the breeze

did you know
sleep deprivation
is a form of torture?

and you have kept her up
long enough

and she's tired of being worn
like an overcoat
as your splendid outer garment
in all it's melancholy finery
passersby remark
on how well you wear her
and you have the audacity to say
'Oh this old thing'

she's wearing thin and eventually
she'll disappear
altogether

she's becoming threadbare in places
and no matter how tightly
you wrap yourself up in her
she won't keep you warm

but that's only because
you don't want her to get warm
or let her go to sleep
you just won't let her rest in peace
will you
Tears of grief stream down their faces,
Mirroring the falling rain.
As a mother and her little girl lie dead,
having been slain.
I cannot possibly comprehend the family's pain.
Or begin to know why such a senseless tragedy
has happened again.
But in the midst of this fallen world of tragedies and grief,
I must hold fast to my belief.
That God is still God.
That God still loves.
And He knows how to bring good
out of
unspeakable
loss.
Written in the wake of hearing the tragic news that five-year-old Taliyah Marsman's body has been found after a three day amber alert in Calgary, Alberta (where I live).  My prayers and condolences go out to the family and friends of Taliyah and her mother Sara Bailie.  I grieve along with them over this terrible loss.

Slide, Swipe and stare

Thoughts conspicuous by absence

Something seems to be sinking

Sinking to a depth not known

But how much can flow out

The reservoirs gets drained

The moist air must rise

To accumulate and give back

The empirical evidence though

Is not of a nature encouraging

Leaving one breathless

Grappling and struggling for air

Sheer desperation gives a respite brief

But doesn't solve the problem whole

Fear of suffocation keeps nagging

Why this ailment continues to inflict?

"It is a deepening,"
                         she said
and took his hand
to her watery bed,
beaming her light
upon those almost
invisible threads
in particles subtly
                 speaking
in sparkling aquatic tongues
like colored crystals,
felt in shards of icy wine
shells sifted
in far-flung
            seas of time
Shining down as
we dive to the depths
we lead each other on
We are the
           explorers of the dark
We have
powerful equipment
to attempt to clarify
radiate it all up
              and if it fails,
the light from
our eyes and hands
is enough to illuminate
the murky
        waters below
our salvation,
deep-sea secrets
revealed—
churning in undertow
         In fact, if you dare
to penetrate the dark
and cast aside
fear of predators
               you will see-
the ruins of
an ancient temple
                waiting,
just waiting
for you
       for me
to dance amongst
the algae-coated
alabaster, green
wisps moving
in hypnotic motion
to weave in-between
the fish and corals,
a magic breathing in
of ocean
in sync with our own
                          breaths
This expanse of endlessness
        …..so many layers to discover
to sway and trip the light
in quiet,
            breathless joy
The feel of electric
flow around our feet.
Saltwater,
            turning sweet.
It is time
for the next stage
                     to begin
So tip your
head back,
my love---
and
       drink it
                     in
"Take me one more time
Take me one more wave
Take me for one last ride
I'm out of my head...
The sound of the waves collide.....
tonight"

She fell too far to the right
For me to be at my center
And hold her
Better than any arms ever could
I couldn't break at the red light
The only way to stop
Is like a star
Falling in a black hole
She fell too far to the left
So far my hands can't reach her
And all I feel
Is the pain
Of what should have been
Nothings really right
          What
        Is
Left?
