You came to me in the summer sun
Eyes filled to the brim with gold

Now you've abandoned me
Leaving my heart empty

Winter has never felt so cold.

I'm running from the pain
Always have been
The problem is
You can't outrun
Yourself
And I'm really the only one who's hurt me...

Her eyes were fiery
While her lips peeled away
Her sun was setting
But her colors never fade
When she bites she is bitter
But when she smiles she is sweet
Like a nectarine emblem
She’s the fruit of life’s tree.

this is from a poetry prompt on @RelisticPoetry on Twitter.  the pic for the prompt was huge dry sand dunes in the midday heat of the sun.

You asked me how long forever is as we laid on your dusty couch in a borrowed apartment
with a sigh I replied sometimes, just one second

Its nights like these that are my favorite.
When I’m sitting next to you
and your leg is rubbing mine,
while you play your new game
and I play on my computer.
But we aren’t ignoring each other.
On the contrary.
Each muscle is aware of your skin on mine
and your breathing has matched my own.
While we each pick songs that we grew up with
talking about the part of our life that they impacted.
Even ten years later,
there’s so much about you that I want to know.
The way she feels,
       her smell,
    touch  , taste,
        and how
   she  sounds  are
     all ingredients
               for
       the fix to my
          addiction.                                                                     Jon York   2019
