The night sky was a piece of art, sketched
By a thousand eager caresses of the wind and
Painted with tender brushstrokes in the many
hues of dark blue, sprinkled with white sand.

There she sat cross-legged, bare arms trembling with
Cold (anticipation) --the earth seemed so far away
Suspended on a canvas of concrete hundreds of
Feet in the air, metal bars in decay

Lights dying, fumes dissipating, horizon
Fading--Skyscrapers but a silhouette
In a backdrop of gray (the silence felt wrong, somehow,
Like fine wine on a picnic mat)

So she closed her eyes and imagined--
less gray, more blue,
The smell of petrichor, and the humming of birds, and leaves
glistening with the sheen of morning dew

But she opened them again--
Saw prison bars, and she realised,
All along she had been listening to a lonely
Melody her mind had devised...

Painting an impossible picture.
This world is far too technologically-advanced to acknowledge or care to appreciate Mother Nature. There are so many campaigns to promote "saving the earth" but do we listen? No! I fear that if this goes on for much longer, it will be no longer possible to change our ways...but honestly, what can one girl with her poem do? Absolutely nothing.

Whispering wind
Blowing steadily
Carrying the voices of nature
Onward,
Reaching all corners
Making Mother Nature's voice heard
Sun beaming down upon my skin
Feeling alive
In this moment
Sitting in a field feeling the wind blow

I am the world
Lost and alone.
Parasites rid me
Of any precious
Resources I create
They torch and scar my flesh
I choke on the toxic fumes
They send to my atmosphere
I grow dizzy
Waiting
And spinning
Until I finally lose control,
My fate is self destruction
Suicide by loss of my emotions
I will end my short life
Rather than have the parasites
End it for me
I am the world
And the universe will continue
Without me

It starts in my dreams I’m lost at sea my head is at float just about to sink.
I see a boat, but it feels impossible to reach.
I just can’t find the strength to get my head above water to wave my arms out for help.
As I sink I hear the cries of the sea creatures my body lays lifeless dancing with movements of the waves sinking me slowly.
My lungs fill with water I can taste the oil that man has spilled in our ocean.
Soon afterwards it rains turning the deep blue sea a dark rich red that chills my bones at sight of it.
Mother Nature is angry we’ve disrespected her, and she’ll get her revenge.
I’m lost to the depths of the sea; you’ll never find me she has made sure of that

Mother Nature is calling me home
telling me to escape this horrid place
she whispers in my ear through the wind
saying all the flowers are dead
come with me and you will feel alive
sunflowers and  dandelions
will cover your eyes
there are no dead roses
and trees cut from there souls
only waterfalls filled with healing powers
and sun dazed smiles
She says run with me
and as she grasps my hand
I can feel the earth within her
She tells me run, don't be afraid
we have to leave this place
escape to the moon
so we can watch from above
where everyone looks like ants
and we have the magnifying glass
watching them burn and squirm
and life leaving there dead eyes.

There’s a copper covered floor
     swept in by father’s hand.

And a sweet scent dwelling in the thick air
     of mother’s sigh.

Streams leak into the sills
     upon my face.

And a blindfold
     drapes the *****.

A mesmerizing buzz
     echoes within.

And irrationality
     fills my presence.
Outside I find myself looking in

she never intended to spit out buildings
or spew smoke into the atmosphere
she didn't dream of rush hour
she could've had so much power

light years away
she stays hidden in dismay
every time, disappointed
her telescope pointed
at more earthly disarray

and the galaxies surrounding her
could never compare
to the earth that she dreamed to become
the earth we will never see
the stardust that was ready to
seep through her pores
but we blocked off her skin
we cut off her wings
and stars can't shine if they're covered

to identify with a place,
you must love the land.
and to love the land,
you must connect with it.
fall in love with the natural, simple beauty of your country
and of countries and cultures around the world.
nature's a gift and many of us never end up unwrapping it)

It feels as though Mother Nature
has just lazily opened her eyes.

The snow turns to puddles
under her powerful gaze.

Her tired yawns
blow my hair over my face.

The flowers and leaves slowly
start to reach for their mother.

It feels as though my soul,
is too reaching for her.
We have awakened.
