a warrior
a sister
a friend
but most of all
a mother
who spreads her love
like the wings of the majestic eagle
she is
covering her eaglets with her warmth
and care
she is a true sight to behold
a tale never told
a book that never gets old
a day filled with warmth
a blooming rose
a protective wall
a melodic note
a defending fort
a love never known
words cannot describe her
but she takes it upon herself
to describe them
she is love
and so much more
she is my mom
she is my dad
l could never ask for more
Momma what’s a life in shadows?
She asks the moon, because momma’s long gone.
Are they pretty, all faceless and shifting?
Or are they h a z y ?
Does the running woman in the rain believe herself a bird?
Where’s her flock momma?
Is she l o n e l y ?
Lost about the stone’s pure grain and glory?
I’m sorry you’ve got
To share yours with the sun.
Does he know, momma?
Does the sun know
About the shadows?
Maybe if he’d come down
He could keep them c o m p a n y.
I would
If I could.
Momma what’s a life in shadows?

My mother's shawl,
She wonders why I steal it sometimes,
I steal it because its smells of her,
Her earthly scent brings warmth to my heart,
It reminds me of her embrace,
My father bought her that shawl,
It reminds me of him,
How he cared for her,
And it reminds me of what love is supposed to be

Fly away little seagull
You are lost in the storm
Fly away little seagull
You need to be safe and warm

Fly away little seagull
Smaller than all the rest
Fly away little seagull
Don't be afraid to seek out your mother's nest

She will welcome you
Take you beneath her wing
And though you never said you needed
There's a lullaby she will sing

Through the storm
She is the keepers light
Guiding you right home
Through the cold and endless night

Fly to her little seagull
Sing a song in return
Fly to her little seagull
For you still have much to learn

Life is hard little seagull
People can let you down
But you are a tough little seagull
And she taught you how to stand your ground

Soon the day will come
When you'll spread your little wings
And fly out of the warm nest
But you'll remember the songs she sings

And think of each time she held you
In the dark of night
Remember all the love she shared
And smile as you take flight

i hope you will write to me
   years from now
when you have grown
when i am old
when you are on your own

i hope you will write to me
     and remember my love
a heart-changing
lifetime lasting
    blessing from above

i hope you will write to me
    and realize just how proud
i am to be your mother
just me and you
    surviving all the doubt

i know you will always write to me
   because your heart is kind
you loved me well
more than i deserved
    forever intertwined
for my son.

I wish my mom would look at me as a person rather than a prize
In her eyes parenting is a competition

If I choose to spend more time with him she is losing
But she must win, to her, there is no other option

Then the minute she is ahead she loses the ability to even acknowledge me
Because of her, I am lacking in the stability I so often crave
