There was a young lad
Lived next door
In his parents' basement.
We saw the flicker
Of his screen
Through his curtain window.
He had two jobs,
A license too,
But drove their car
As they had two.
He wasn't one to get out much,
He hadn't many visitors,
He seemed out of touch.
In school he wasn't a head banger,
He presented his doppelganger.
Secretly he worked his game,
Perfected it to bring him fame.
Now everyone says his name.

Oh where has my good friend gone?
I'm longing for my Autumn song
Since June I irked to hear the tune
Oh where has my good friend gone?

Perhaps he's lost in a shroud of smoke
Or hid behind my flask
Or altogether had a stroke
and rendered me a mask

Perhaps I let him get to close
Or took his time for granted
Perhaps he's wilted as a rose
Whose death the Sun commanded

Perhaps he's still alive and well
Perhaps I'll never know
Or walking lost like me in hell
below a laughing Crow

Mr. Know It All
Who do you think you are?
You speak like you know everything
when it’s obvious you know nothing.
You act like you’re some kind of genius
but all you are is a freaking alcoholic.

Mr. Know It All
You seem to think you’re Christopher Langan
the man considered to be the smartest in America.
In high school he taught himself things
such as
advanced math, physics, philosophy, Latin and Greek
he allegedly got 100% on his SAT.

Mr. Know It All
What were your accomplishments?
You dropped out of high school your senior year
You started smoking and drinking when you were 15.
You led one daughter to suicide
and you treat the other like she’s an idiot.

Mr. Know It All
Are you Kim Ung-Yong in your mind?
He could read
Korean, Japanese, English and German
by the time he was three.
Moved to America to work at NASA
when he was eight.

Mr Know It All
You’re forty-four
and you can’t even speak one other language
let alone four.
You’ve never worked at NASA
you work in a warehouse.

Mr. Know It All
You are not a genius
you are an alcoholic
you have little accomplishments
and the tragedies you cause out weigh
them by tons.

Mr. Know It All
Give up and shut up
we don’t want to hear it.
Stop drinking
you’re quieter when you’re sober
and we like the quiet.

Mr. Know it All*
The words coming from your mouth
are not intelligent,
and I’m done listening to them.
Goodbye and have a great life.
Just ugh

this planet holds together
gravitating humans
Through scalding chemicals
Chemicals staining our breath
(some ancient soliloquies never forgotten)
Atoms dying
And then living
Inside of our mortally immortal bodies
So be my rubidium
(I am oxygen)
And crave me and my words
We will explode and simultaneously
De-combust
Shattering the world around us
Releasing the angst of a lonesome soul and
tantalizing revelations of hope
the innate genius hidden in us
in
Rubidium and Oxygen
be my rubidium
He is

Everything I believe in all came in sequence.
I fall into the deep end and my night becomes sleepless.
I breathe this like i need this.
Fall into the pits of a mind that doesn't know it's genius.
Everything I feel is hard to conceal.
I am losing my grip on how to hide all that is real.
You can see it on my face when I feel misplaced.
Just waiting for the day where things catch up to my pace.
Everything I see, once blinded me.
It became tied to me, like an anchor to the sea.
I almost drowned in what I never thought I'd believe.
Overwhelming changes that I didn't adhere to gracefully...
Now, it is nothing new.
Like putting on my shoes, I have grown accustomed to the view.
They say never look down, but what if you live in the sky?
Do we have to die to realize that our time is only passing us by?
Become alive.
Become the night.
Become the fight that always wraps tightly around you, forcing you to become a shade that is warmer than blue.
Who knew that I would astound you with the view that I choose?
Everything I am came to me like am slow motion frame.
And now I sit here and reminisce about the time that it all changed.
The difference is, I all not sure when it all happened.
So I suppose I see clear through a time I had only imagined...

As  I read your poems,
all I could think of
is ...
Genius.

But that scares me sometimes.
Am I in love with you?
or am I just in love with your poetry?

But then I remember...
we are
what we write.
man and poetry are on the same team. :)
