Oliver
people see smoldering flames
crawling up her veins
and think of empires collapsing into ash,

people watch her eyes spark
and feel her calloused electricity
and they convince themselves of her power

she broods and she intimidates
and they think she is strong
and they think she is dangerous
and they are afraid of her fire

even though the only thing she tries to destroy
is herself.

Just the other day
I noticed little things
Were going missing:
Thimble,
Spectacles,
Needle,
Fifty cent piece.

I found it particularly queer
How these objects disappeared.
I don't think I misplaced them
Perhaps my mind erased them.

[Later that week]

Today is my birthday.
Tilly, my granddaughter,
Presents me with a
Needlepoint magpie.

My heart finds incandescent joy.

Your love
has dried up the ocean
in my eyes,
so when the pain
seeps in,
I pour the wine
of your thoughts
in my pen
and let the words
(I write to you)
get high
and cry...

I am the lonely boy who loves a lonely girl
When I’m blue, she’s the one I run to
You’d think we go together like two + two
But in fact, we make five and here’s why
—————————————————
We’re both equally traumatised
With a battlefield going strong in our minds
It tires her out all the time
Whereas I use drugs as a coping vice
We’re both fairly afraid to get close
Because past lovers still have a hold
Not in the sense we keep a torch lit
Just scarred and bruised from the flames within
We’re both so anxious about timing
She thinks she’s too much, I think I’m not enough
—————————————————
These are the cards we’re dealt with
But having her by my side is a blessing
Originally this was called “Lonely Girl” part two to my second poem “Lonely Boy” but renamed it after the Jack Nicholson film

Religious literals
Run our empire

With beliefs such as
The -ites must
Be purged from
God’s lands
In order to clear the way
For His return
Yes of course

That’s what the book says
Correct?

Stone the gays
Burn the witches
Wedding night ***** check
Unbelievers are already dead
Oh and
Love thy neighbours
Amen!

I’m sure there’s something in there
Worth saving!

Grew up in Christianity, studied religions for 5 years before I stop taking them literal...
I pray our leaders catch up!
Wish in one hand **** in the other

A Blackeyed Demon
crawled out of my *****
on his travels to and fro
helped himself to my provisions
and left his superstitions
spreading chaos was his goal

The Sky Wizard would angrily protest
this his religion could not digest
He sent a drought a plague and a flood
He got so angry he forgot how to love

The moral of the story
could never be known
for this universe was never my home
I am but a Traveler
a one nightstand
I won’t be held responsible
for this broken promise land
