It was a wonder to be in the wild
without the pains and naivete of youth

Then I remembered life was
being like a fly stuck in glass,
back-and-forth between the calm
and the longing afterward.
Feeling undone,
when you return from those highlands to a settlement
More of an agreement than a home
To keep you hushed, keep you in line
Made a bruised heart wait out in the cold
Had it sag down
On your streets where there were no justice
Only merciless dogs trembling in their skin
For so violent an unbelonging
Such a vain act of expelling
Came from your seat, your house
Cold hearth
The ones you bore waiting waif
Out on your streets, in concrete embellish
the ones you could not take home
Orphaned and fooled
Ding ding ding
Hearing of the death bell ring
And honor dies bleeding
But not a love lost
Today I met a jet boat named Desire
Killing time on the docks, crimson like cherry wine
It's been telling me of the corrupted youth

That nothing has ever been the same
Since they tore down the funfair park
Where we made a pilgrimage each night
To bury our most desperate loves

Now we all have a lover waiting at the bar
They steal kisses from strangers for fun
But Desire says he's been dismissive lately
Of sand devils and kindred spirits
Says there is no illness as stubborn
as the pursuit of company
They opened up my mind, saw what was inside
I no longer had a place to go
I tore apart my flesh and fled,
In a split second in time, I got lost in your tectonic breadth
It was their delusional minds making you bleed to death
Now your rifts and valleys,
your glaciers under your crest
your cracks where water reins
Your sighs within these magnificent gaps...

Flightless in your substance
I fall,
Rejoice like a moth in the flame
