Chicago
Clinton Rothfuss Sep 2014
Please let me go
Where I'm unknown,
Wind always blows,
Everything goes,
Cool river flows,
Bury my woes.
Oh, take me back
To Chicago

Summers End
Clinton Rothfuss Sep 2014
I love the way my cat looks
On spring-ish autumn days
Ignoring everything and
Hiding under the shade
Black bugs crawling through white fur
Dandelion pillows on green earth
Then I remember being young
Sticks became swords under the sun
I could fly if I closed my eyes
And truly believed
But that was some time ago
A different cat in my home
I was so much younger
And so was my house
And so were the trees

Lunar
Clinton Rothfuss Aug 2014
Not quite satisfied unless I wake up past noon
More than acquainted with all shapes of the moon
In fact we might be distant lovers
It's possible that we were brothers
In some forgotten past life
Illuminating pale light
While conquering the black night
Hovering above the sky
Representing malevolence
By leaving the alley ways dark

Then, Now, Later
Clinton Rothfuss Aug 2014
What's going to happen next?
Friend, it's already happened.
Isn't time a
Curious thing?

Threes
Clinton Rothfuss Aug 2014
Biding time
  Making rhymes
                Till I find
                    Some purpose
Always I
     Fall behind
         Sleeping till
            Last minutes
Missing flights
       And free rides
                   All along
                       The Highway
Losing sight
    Fading mind
         Close my eyes
                    I'm distant

The Waiting Room
Clinton Rothfuss Aug 2014
What ails you?
Is it your body that fails you?
Or your brain?
Or is it
your heart that
gives you pain?

Whatever it may be
There's a cure
Yes, I'm sure
Maybe medicine
Maybe words

Deep breaths
And one day,
even Death.

Celebration
Clinton Rothfuss Aug 2014
There's nothing quite like a pint
in celebration of good health
Or forty ounces
in celebration of anything else
I'll be drinking beer
to celebrate my arrival into Hell

Woman on a Bus
Clinton Rothfuss Aug 2014
What's on your mind?
And where are you
going alone?
Painted bones
On your phone
And did you know?
Writers like me
Love wondering
Who you could be

How oft do you
go far from home?
For business or
pleasure? Only
time for thinking?
If you were me
you'd wish you were
Somewhere drinking

But you
Aren't me
Are you?
And that's
The beau-
Ty of
it all.

Restless
Clinton Rothfuss Aug 2014
Oh I need
To get some rest
But I won't
I'll just keep feeling
For now

Oh I need
To drink some fluids
And not the first thing that I place
into my hand

Sing
Me to sleep
I smell a fire
And I hear laughter
And I see black
