The torch shining in

the cesspit, on the masses --

of rising maggots.
Tale "A Change of tongue" (2003, Antjie Krog)

Collection "Stream"
Tammy Cusick Aug 2019
Billowed down onto natures bust
a face full of dirt
a mouth full of maggots
corpsing coercion onto frantic plates
slopping up the juicy details
derailing off the tracks
into a new train of nature,
saving only what comes of value
yet, you don't save yourselves.

Lucrative hands slithering softly by
ready to steal your life with just a touch
how much are you worth?
Unfortunately, nothing.

Breath was exhumed from the corpses
lingering impressions.
   But all were merged beyond
the futile emotions of the flesh.

For where reflections were void,
             only true deliberations stigmatized.
                                    Everything of before,
               that  were psychedelic illusions.

Reminiscing of stained windows,
recently cleansed of the memories of
                                                                yesterday.
Only now were remnant fallen dreams buried
                                           beneath falling stars..

                           That crawled like maggots
                                                 in the heavens
burrowing deeper the more they fell...
And still though falling, there breath still
                                          gasped as death only exhales.

She carried along a sad heaviness that bled into her gaze,
staining it with the sting of loneliness, and regret.
The prospects of living didn't seem too promising after all.
Missing him.
Missing home.
Nothing could stop the maggots tearing into her brain.
Causing her to forget who she was, and become a joyless host wandering around in hopes of finding love.

(I've been going on a streak of missing things. Sorry, if that's not what you like, but as of now that's all that's on my mind)

I am the King of Maggots.
Discarded remains are my domain.
I open my mouth to lead my Children,
and Flies erupt from my lungs.
There is nothing for me in this world.
Nothing but contempt.
Let it come, let it dribble down
the chin of disdain as it swallows.
My Spawn hatch beneath my skin,
squirming, thriving on my lifeblood.
At last, it is time to leave the nest,
and Maggots burrow out through my pores.

Outside, I am empty.
Inside, I am fulfilled.

Even in death,
          your last words
were cremated within you.

Like a whispers
                    in a jar
rotting in your lungs.

Words were maggots
             eating away within
                         yearning for release.

The limbs grow, cover and cradle me
Like the arms of a forgotten lover
The maggots give me love bits as they slowly consume
The worms slither round about, in and out
Never again will my face wear a frown
Never again will I worry about zen
Or about how's and when's
This moss is my bed
Where I lay my weary head
Off to rest for eternity
Where the animal and insects show me love internally

Finally LOVE!!!!!!

I'm forever circling over the tree tops
I don't have to flap my wings, I just glide non stop
Just trying to find some place to land
For your clock was stoped, you've ran out of sand
Don't worry no pain I bring
You won't feel a thing
I will feast upon your rotting flesh
It is my very favorite dish
I will gobble it all down even the wiggling maggots
And whatever else there inhabits
I do my circling dance in the sky
Just to let others know that near by
Something must have died, and lays baking in the sun
And I will soon be having fun
