She sets down
her very large glass of Malbec
sighs and lights
a poorly rolled
******-like cigarette
the look on her face
bothers me deeply
I open my mouth
with good intentions
and probably should have
said something like
"Are you ok?"
but what came out
went something like
You are nothing to me
just an **** potato
there's almost nothing
that you could provoke
within anyone
except for the cats
Yeah,
I'd bet you could start
the feline revolution
with your poisoned toenails
and mashed carrots
not even seventeen vats of ****
could make you more slippery
No,
I don't want your wet cake
just bees,
endless mayonnaise
and cherry flavoured toxic yoghurt
...
"you can only pick 2" except I took all 9 pills and wrote this

Anais Vionet Dec 2020
My cat’s become so critical
of the pieces that I write
he kneads to express his opinion
and he always thinks he’s right.

He twitches his ear-itation
if I don't write in Senryus.
If what I write displeases him
he’s under the bed for refuge.

He’s worse than many teachers -
his reviews are seldom neutered -
he pointedly wags that twitchy tail
or cat-calls disapproval.

He laid across my laptop
for half the afternoon
‘til I promised an ode to tuna
which earned purrs of hallelujah!
it's hard to find an audience in a pandemic

Cat
At midnight I'd see a cat
Male or female I do not know
Though they're fluffy —
White as snow.

A pleasant approach with an embracing face
As the creatures eyes glow
Warmer than the ol' Moon up above
And shine so splendidly that I often forget
Both the time and place
In which we met.

How can a nameless feline like you
Make me ponder who I am?
There they lie on the floor of the house.
Stretched in the sun, lounging about.
Furry and killer, soft yet so mean.
Gone when you want them, here when you don't.

Honestly,
you believe
such as a gullible dog would,
that a straw-woven chair
will save you
from the vet?

Junebug June,
gazing at the moon.
Your tail flicks in time
to a silent tune
the stars gently croon.

June Junebug,
the twinkling stars tug
at the strings of your heart
as you gaze in a trance
at the stars in their dance.

Junebug dear,
the night sky so clear,
the melody the moon
whispers in your ear
only you can hear.
For a fiercely independent calico kitten who is now full grown.

The warmth of a cat is all that you need,
Your saddened heart will cure with their lead.

They'll keep you company on your loneliest days,
As they curl in a ball and soften their gaze.

Cats are superior to all of the rest,
They'll keep you grounded when you are stressed.

These animals care, though sometimes it seems like they don't,
But when you think everyone has abandoned you,

They won't.

I love my cats <3

-

Cats possess this thing
about their rears that they
flaunt with impunity

wielding it to express their
unique personal opinions
at the moment

uncurling outwards and
upwards and around then
back downwards

sweeping around table legs
swishing side to side and
then slipping underneath

towards no one
in particular

they sometimes will
form the shape of
the letter "C"
coil into a "S"
straighten to an "i"
or if startled, an "!"

but not a "Z",
never a "K"
and no "E"s,
definitely
not—

and certainly
not an "X"
unless two
stand end
to end

maybe four of them
can gather and
form a "W"

but given their nature,
would they not
question "Y"—
? ...
