you're looking at the moon tonight
gazing in awe of its beauty,
its brightness and glory
in the midst of the cloudy night sky
in the midst of the darkness above

you looked at it very intently
for you'll never see it in that way
for years and for several decades

you're looking at the moon tonight
in the same way i looked at you everyday
For the moon disappears when the day comes.
And I know that you too will disappear someday.

in baler where the sun shines and the waves visit
is where freedom bathes under the blue skies
in the seaside realm of surfing

simple hotels line the shore
where you can run to the beach fronts
after settling in little white rooms,
and in the blue water
wait tanned, youthful surfing instructors--
local boys of the province who've grown up
with the salt water as their playground.

get on your surfboard and
join the waters,
"mag-timing ka sa alon,"—
"wait for the waves", the instructors say
and lie down on your stomach on the surfboard,
and when you do get the waves you ride them fearlessly,
you are lifted, invincible,
by the hands of the philippine sea.

and if you don't surf,
the smooth sands are there,
calling you to lie around
under the seaside sun.

and when night falls
and the waves are reckless,
you can sit on the sand
with a bonfire and some drinks—
watch the stars
with the sound of the tides as your music
and do not fear;
for in the morning
the waves will come rushing
back to the shores of Balers
to give anyone freedom
as they always do.
Baler, Aurora—a beautiful province in the Philippines known for its beautiful oceans, a place where surfers and everyone else come to ride its waves.

a lady of colorful blood
prepped in white uniform
she'll put your heart back together
whenever you feel down or torn

she deeply loves a boy
as if he's from her books
way past his words and actions,
way past his looks

ointments of her embrace
and her medicinal laughter
she dreams and doesn't know it
but she's already a doctor

sometimes her puns are die-worthy
yet sometimes they give life
she cures with her compassion
and bandages the strife

people give her their sadness
in return, is happiness, she gave
all will be unnumbered--
those lives which she saved

i liken her to the sun
i liken her to the stars
i liken her to the brightness
outshining the scars of dark hearts

she's no plain jane
she's no ordinary girl
i brought her into my life
and she brought healing to my world
this one is for jane, one of my closest, and literally the closest because we're in the same university. i love you so much jane richelle. especially on my birthday this year; without you i would've been a little down but you picked me right back up! i love you. thank you for being my friend and my healing!

to the girl who takes words out of people's minds
who speaks in metaphors, touches thousands of hearts
to the girl who aches for her prince to find
her poetry where it bled in the sea of rose quartz

to the girl who lived for two decades today
to the one who loves to the moon, back and around
the one who sits at the back of the cafe
writing for people whom she surrounds

happiest birthday my dear mermaid of poetry
you've been staying strong for twenty years now
it takes time to be the great person you want to be
you just have to keep your head unbowed

and things may be hard, may be tougher than this
and deadlines will keep trying to break you down
when the time comes you think you won't ever experience bliss
remember you're a mermaid, you can never drown

you've already been living for 7,300 days
eighty season changes in mermaid's time
you have survived all that crazy life chase
i think, my darling, you will be fine.
to my koala/mermaid/poetry goddess, madge,
happy birthday to you! stay strong okay :) this sem will be over soon and you will have your well deserved break. You are a fighter, you can get pass through this. I will always be cheering you on. I love you jm, a lot. Enjoy your special day ♥

Tonight,
the moon looks like the cheshire cat's grin
and we wonder what it is like
to be someone else.

Head full of fantasies
of places we'll never see
and dreams of universes
we don't belong to.

The moon grins down,
like it knows something I don't
and I gaze back accusingly.

"It's Monday tomorrow."
My mother reminds me again.
Deadlines for assignments. night classes and spending money for transportation and meals happen again, in a ravenous cycle of time, growth and worry.
It's Monday tomorrow.
I'm turning twenty. And so is my birthday another cycle to be showered upon with special greetings, after all, people give all they can to one person mostly just on their special day. The twentieth year. A cycle of time, growth and worry.
In my family, we never entertained the ideas of birthdays.
It's Monday tomorrow.
Just another ordinary day for me.
Spending money on transportation and meals, night classes and deadlines for assignments.
Oh, and the deadline of my nineteenth.
(Happy) Twentieth to me.

But happy twentieth to my twin Lorde, and nineteenth to wjh's best friend, xmh!

the sun is so in love with the moon
that he's starstruck
and is already a shooting star
falling everyday
dying every night
just to let his silver lover live
and gives some of his light to her
during the darkest hours

the sun is so in love with the moon
before the universe even existed
we just don't know it
because their love is light years ahead of us
to all the sun and moon lovers out there. i hope you keep yourselves starstruck with each other.
