Fear Us

Not all depressed cut,
Not all sad shed tears,
Not all strong fight,
Not all monsters roar,
Not all young are innocent.
Some just work harder to maintain a mask.
We are here,
And you have reason to fear,
We are the best liars,
We can manipulate the greatest con artist without batting an eyelash.
Watch out we are coming.
This is a dark and serious p poem but that didn't change the fact that In was tempted to put "and we're queer" instead of " And you have reason to fear" ****

Us
The first of the warmest days of spring
A beautiful view stretched out before me
Sun shining, clouds drifting
Winter's brutal cold a fading memory

Red tulips standing at attention
Their soft floral scent fills the air
The sun's rays warm on my skin
A gentle breeze touches your hair

Sitting together hand in hand
Across the table from each other
We came together as though it were planned
Each one so in love with the other

How is it we are so blessed
Living this life of bliss
Our love envied by the rest
It doesn't get much better than this

7 billion realities
each of us consumed in own own
living in the comfort of our cubicles
playing out our stories
day by day
living so small
in such an infinite universe

7 billion lives
fighting to survive
in this mysterious, vague cycle we label as life
we only see our own perceptions
believe our own deceptions
we all strive for perfection
when perfection doesn't exist.
it is an abstract concept created by man himself
this seed of "idealism" planted into the mind of society
eats away at the purity of the innocence a child is born with
we do not live in a utopia
neither an apocalypse
but in a perfectly imperfect balance
an equilibrium of the two
but we fail to achieve harmony
to find peace
we fail to come together in unity
there are humans but no humanity
all scavenging for scraps of sanity
in a world of madness
in a deranged realm of hunger and greed
in this ephemeral illusion
which will one day cease to exist

where are the lost souls that wish to be found?
where are the voices, that wish to be heard?
where is the love that can stretch beyond the seas and the skies?
where is the good in the power of mankind?
and so I ask, in the name of the people
where are the people?

I look back fondly at my twenties
A time between youth and responsibility
Moving through the world independently
Nobody counting on me

Now in my early fifties
I am all things to everybody
Wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, employee
Never a moment to sit and just be

When I'm in my eighties
Will I be content, my time completely free?
Or will I be alone in my thoughts and my home
Wishing, again, somebody needed me?

Remember the time before you
grew tired? You gave me Thornton. I keep it
with me to bring up pleasantries before this
got broken.  The dedication inside from

mother said “Be Joyful” I hold it with glee,
a souvenir of that year, sometime in
December.  It brought a shiver of uncertainty,
when clouds covered this memory.  It still holds

together despite its loose binding. I told you
one day you’d walk away. Then made it happen. I can’t
copy it. I would if I could. I tried but it wouldn’t
print out. Lucky for me, I hold the original.

The Non-Poet
life is like
when you're
a little kid
and you
discover that
there is more
than twenty-four
crayons in the box
that there is
the possibility
of forty-eight colors
of sixty-four
of one-hundred and twenty
that there are
so many shades
of love and anger and peace and despair
and absolute bliss
and the ability
to express them all
are now
in the palm
of your hand

life is
colorful
beautiful
thought-provoking
lovely
soulful
heartbreaking
inspiring
and absolutely wonderful

every day is
a new sunrise
a new chance
to transform into
the butterfly you
want to be

go out there
and change the world, kid
