wrap my fragile chest
in a tight embrace
suffocate me please
and show me now
the who I want to be
E May 2020
music never left me alone
sound has never failed to make me feel
dynamics and bass never once left me
wavelengths rushing through a shallow canal
caused for greater clarity and prosperity
had i not had the vibrations rummaging through my ears
i ought of lost my mind
the reality is that i am alone
and noise protects my sanity
it keeps my mind full
to push aside mental antics
and keep myself stuffed of ideas
music never stopped my imagination
on the days i wanted to die
music kept me in a stagnant state
that allowed me to prevent harm
without the loving melodic voices
i would have stripped someones throat out
music gives me a soul
and a shoulder to lean on
when the demons come chasing after me
felt the vibe to write about music since its important to me

My old name is dead to me.
That's why they call it a deadname.
The person who had that name breathes no more.
She was killed by my own hands.

She was named for both of her grandmothers,
some sort of sentiment to come from a careless mistake.
Maybe this is what made it so easy for me to **** her
because her name was a throw-away.

Her middle name came from the title of a movie
that her parents had once liked.
But the movie is old and bland, and the plot has no meaning.
So her names are futile attempts at trying to right a wrong,
trying to make up for something that can never be fixed.

I killed her.
I wanted her dead so badly,
so I killed her.

My name is Casey.

I am not heartless, though.
She wanted me to be Casey.
Although I killed her, she still means something to me.

I had to **** her in order to move on.
She knew that.
So I am Casey for her.

Casey.

It means spear.
A weapon.

Fitting for a murderer.
Our prompt was to write a response to "My Name" by Sandra Cisneros. I took a slightly different approach and wrote about my deadname.

Hello my name is Kole
I was confused
I made a friend who loved me for me because he understood
He understood because he was trans
I was gay
But then I met him
I knew something was different inside me
I met him and I understood who I was at last
I was born a girl
I hated my body
I pretended to be a girl
I wore dresses and makeup to please them
But now I have cut my hair
I feel authentically me
I am happier than I have ever been
I have a ways to go but finally I am me!
I am a transgender male and I owe my Discovery and life to my best friend Finn, Thank you.

i went to rehab
in utah.

and they told me there,
that i would never amount
to anything.

i stayed for five months.

i tried to **** myself twice.

i scratched the sin off my arms
with my fingernails
in an attempt
to feel
in control.

they forced me
to walk
and walk
and walk.

they told me
that gay
was wrong.

i thought i signed up
for rehab?

i fell off my horse
and he trampled me.

they told me to **** it up

got yelled at for looking at someone
of the same gender
for
a little too long

they thought
he was the opposite ***.
because trans kids
"don't exist"

they didn't know
that we
passed notes.

and as i was forced
to renounce my ways

i fell harder into them
than i
had ever
been.
I went to rehab at a facility in utah, and soon found out that it was conversion therapy in disguise.

The smell of dirt envelopes me as i run down the street and turn the corner.
Sliding down the wet pavement i feel my bare feet rub raw.
i can taste blood from biting the insides of my cheeks, maybe even my tongue.
i finally escaped after so long.
In the distance i hear a dead girls name being called.
They dont really care i tell myself.
If they did they would be calling a different name.
Mine.
Its only a matter of time once the cops come, searching for a girl they will never find.
A girl who doesn’t exist.

Once upon a time there was a little boy.
He lived inside of a girls body, hiding under layers of soft, silky skin.
Under an itchy dress with sparkling gold thread that chafed his chest as he moved, leaving rashes across his sensitive shoulders.
Despite being pressed into the mold of a young girl, he managed to survive.
His long hair tumbling down his shoulders, in sheets of brown that shined with honey in the sun.
His eyelashes were long. His eyes were dewey.
Freckles sprinkled across his cheeks and small freckles on his arm.
His mother called them angel kisses.
That boy was me.
In first grade he got his hair cut short. His parents warned him that people might think he was a boy. That was okay.
It stayed that way until 4th grade. His hair was in a short bob, shaved on the side. His neighbors called him a ****. One of them bullied him so he poured the kids sprite down his face.
The bully stomped on the boys toe and he bled. That was okay.
In 6th grade, he told his best friend a secret. He wasn’t a girl.
His best friend called him handsome.
She was the perfect friend.

Now the girl doesn’t exist. Her parents pretend she does. She has been gone for a long time.
She is dead. Her parents know that she is gone, but they think if they pretend enough, that she will come back, that if i am denied love and support i will eventually waste away into oblivion, and she will come back.
i’m still running, but now i yell out too.
i am here.
i am real.

perfect life I dreamt of:
a shot of hormones
a boy who loves me
a place to call my own
and freedom to live

I have it all
yet why is it not enough?

four years it’s all I thought of
the fix to all my problems
all but one
became the start of all of them

I can feel it getting tighter
And
It's strangling me

My heart racing
And
Head pounding

I thought this was gone
But
It's back

I was done with this
But
I guess not

Someone help me
I'm suffocating

Ice
A knife

There's blood
There's so much blood

This is not what I wanted
I just wanted it gone

Battling ignorance
Is putting a knife to my throat
One mistaken word
I hold the danger to be assaulted
As a result the blade slits me open

Battling ignorance
Can be withdrawing the knife
When people digest
That I am a human
And they respect me
I get asked inappropriate questions as a trans person. People forget to be respectful when you come out. Other times people intend to make you feel uncomfortable. And lastly, some result to violence as a way of disapproval. I try to battle ignorance with peace every time I can. Yet I’m still challenged with the opposite energy.
