Out in Phoenix, they’re seeing lights
In LA, they shine too bright
In Flint, they’re drinking poison
In Santa Anita, they’re killing horses

The Sun has seen this lonely place
Turn from hell to heavens gates
Far from perfect, we all lack grace
We see nothing when God sees faith

Out in Boulder, they’re drinking Coors
In Sudan, they’re fighting wars
In Quebec, they’re shooting pucks
In Kensington, they’re shooting up

We all drive down different roads
Yet we’re similar I suppose
We laugh and cry and learn and love
We slowly see what we become

In New York, they’re writing plays
In Kuwait, they’re killing gays
On TV, they’re spreading lies
In DC, they’re facing five

We cannot change the hand we’re dealt
Born to nothing or born to wealth
Birthed in freedom or forced to labor
Love has meaning, love is greater

Our hope will always stay the same
No matter what this world became
See death will come for what it raised
But why be scared, that’s just our fate
We live, we breathe, we fade away
Yet leave behind what we create
(I) Three cups raised skyward
To God in celebration.
Gather sisters, in
The gardens and scream with
The golden rays of sunshine.

(II) The strain of this weight
On my bony shoulder blades
Is overbearing.
I am exhausted and frail;
When can I drop this burden?

(III) A knight in shining
Armor; wielding attractive
Charisma as his
Weapon of choice, rushing
To save the world, or the girl.
Can you guess which cards?
(I) Eight golden coins, and
Two remain unfinished. I
Try to concentrate;
My task almost completed;
My goal nearly realized.

(II) Steel soldiers stand in
Formation; eight malicious
Beams, I, their victim.
It’s far easier to play
Scared when I’m the hero, too.

(III) Here lies the karmic
Crossroads; an Armageddon
Of self-reflection.
Will the goddess berate me,
Or will she rejoice with me?
Can you guess which cards?
A rose illusion
Surrendering your royal future.

A silent magic,
Fresh with wonder,
Blooming your sacred dream.

It’s certain to glow
I visit often, though
This isn’t my happy place.
A homemade solitary confinement;
I cradle myself in the arms of
An oak while ivy brushes
My cheeks. Golden rays,
Golden buds, and golden wings
Flutter around my vision
Like twinkling treasure chests.

Lonely whispers of the wind
Interrupt the mockingbird’s call
Like a siren screaming in
The night. It is chilling, yet
Comforting. Petrichor seeps
Into my pores and my
Melancholy blues fade to
A golden dream. I’m free to
Leave, but not before opening my eyes.
I haven’t seen you in so many days.

Gnashing teeth unintentionally
Bite at bare, vulnerable skin
Like a cornered animal.

Lash out with the quickness
Of the cobra and strike
At anyone on your path.

I haven’t seen you in so many days.

Someone so sweet can
Become so sour with the
Flip of the mood.

Sharp tongue and bared teeth,
Darling, you are
Unexpectedly dangerous.
Where did you go?
I wake in the breezy winter,
Emotion strong but rhythmic.

I hear my flame in blue;
The chill too deep,
Tickling uncertain skin.

Words could not describe the aching in my
heart. The silence roars an anxious song like an
eternal sea crashing the waves onto the shore,
never looks at where it came from. Nobody knows.

Heavy breaths blow my frizzy baby hairs in
every direction and they touch your nose,

longing for the affection my depression begged you for.
Everyone tells me that I should never beg for love.
Fools they are for thinking
that I couldn't go on my knees.
This is my first attempt at an acrostic poem as a part of a poetry prompt to try writing in a form/style I have never tried before. THIS IS A VERY ROUGH FIRST DRAFT THAT I NEED CRITIQUES ON - PLEASE LEAVE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISMS. My intent for the piece was to convey the heartbreak the speaker feels when all of a sudden their partner leaves and the speaker is left begging for love.  I really want feedback and critiques so that I can move this "dead" poem forward.
The cold sense of a
Dreamy deja-vu;
I feel the shadows
Crowd around me
And I’m p

Into a familiar darkness.

I roam the dreamscape
In search of an exit.
Although I already know
What lies ahead,
I’m still distressed.

A constant reincarnation
Of the same faceless
Figure, waiting for me
At the end of
My dreaded ascension.

Chilled to my soul,
I face my indistinctive
Nightmare. The ghosts
Of the past seen so alive
From behind closed eyes.
Bare and timid, I am
Nervous to know if you
Still love me the way
You used to.

Through gritted teeth
And a swollen tongue,
I’ll beat around the bush;
Please say you do.
