The streets scream with unbridled joy.
They are a bird in a cage that has just broken the lock.
They are a stallion in a pen who has spent their
life staring at the mountains,
whose legs have finally found the momentum to
                      Run.
They are a man in the desert,
                      Thirsty and Starving,
who has found himself a banquet in a rainstorm.
They reach their hands into the sky,
praising the sun and the moon and the stars
and God, whoever that may be.
They collapse onto their knees,'
head in their hands,
overwhelmed by a newfound
                    Hope
they haven't felt in four years.

They live again.

The streets are humans united with the knowledge that maybe,
just maybe,
they will be okay.
There is a long way to go still,
but streets are made to get from one place
to another.

We have broken out of that cage.
We are running toward the mountain.
We will soon eat our fill of the banquet laid out
for the hungry, the thirsty, the poor, the sick,
the dying, the naked.

There is a long way to go.
But for now, we sit in traffic on the street and
honk our horns and
raise our hands and
celebrate.

The streets scream with unbridled joy.
the past few days have been the most stressful of my life (I live in the US). there are so many emotions I'm feeling right now, and I felt called to write a poem about it. i hope it resonates with some of you.

You may not know my name,
But I was the witness on the ballot.
We watch for days
To see the results
But little do we know
The worst is yet to come

Spectacle!
Spectacle!
Spectacle!

Upon thee I feast
as your willing
receptacle
thou art my bread's yeast!

Fill me with fear and with grief and doubt
Fill me with joy and with hope I may shout
From atop a tall mount of my own dissolution
And lull me to sleep with your grandiose illusion!

Spectacle!
Spectacle!
Spectacle!

DEAR!

Help me make sludge into mead, crystal clear!
Tell me my roles and opinions and thoughts!
Sell me that which makes my deep emptiness naught!
Oh, you our greatest omnipotent seer!

Spectacle!
Spectacle!
Spectacle!

CAUGHT!

See what you've so serendipitously wrought!
See how so boldly and wondrously you've taught!
For without your guidance, what would be bought?
What would be sold lest the gold you have brought?

Spectacle!
Spectacle!
Spectacle!

FRAUGHT!

What would become of mass cultural trends?
When means for themselves would desist and come ends?
How could we possibly live without you
When you are the arbiter of all that's True?
I don't know that this is finished. Also, don't read Debord the day before an election.

I’m waiting out the day
with minimalist hopes
and recycling anxiety.

I’m waiting for the hour
for a smooth transfer of power
or for things to go sour.

I’m waiting for the word
after a period of counting
for freedom’s call
or an accelerated freefall.
waiting for the (probably bad) news

-

-No need in worrying about some huge
"Billiard God" situated behind the Moon
with a pool stick, thus rendering it possible
to count the lunar craters with relative ease
as it approaches Earth—

( they have already checked,
there is nobody back there )

-Best not concern ourselves about collisions
with dinosaur droppings laid in your path as
they stomp about in pursuit of small vehicles
for an easy meal—

( as they were effectively wiped off the face
of this planet by the droppings of much
larger space rocks )

-Pointless babbling about Poseidon's
release of the Kraken upon our cities—

( as the Romans had abolished such religions
in favor of one palatable enough for the
populace to digest, as opposed to
being digested by said elements
of the aforementioned faith )

-And finally, no cause for alarm if your
particular candidate —for whatever office—
fails to receive enough votes to win his/her
seat in this year's Election, regardless of
your religious or political affiliations—

As This Country has seen
The End of the World
numerous times,

and Will Continue,
just like it has done
for many decades,

Because—

We have seen Worse...

Everything was dull,
you know? Another dark and
dull pandemic week.

But now: OH, MY GOD,
I'M SO EXCITED!! - I can
hardly eat or sleep!!

Gloomy clouds of doom
dissipated when I heard
our President's speech!

The pandemic's past
it's peak he said, it'll be over
by the election!

Two Days!! There will be
DATING SOON - I can scarcely
curb my elation!

I ran to find my
mom - she'll appreciate this
new revelation.

See - I'll need an all
new wardrobe - we've a shopping
list to complete!"

"I need EVERYTHING
in two weeks - MY GOD, is there
even time to sleep???"

"Trump can't just make that
call" she said, (she knows, she's a
doctor after all)

"The President would
never miss-lead us, there are
peoples LIVES at stake!"

"And the people would
would remember, it's on the
news for heaven's sake!"

"Besides, if he
lies and people die - it's a
crime not a mistake!"
I can't vote, but I'm excited - and scared - Just think, and end to Trump lies may be in sight and no more tweets  =]
