i dont remember writing your birthday on my calander
but i don't see why i should
when the point of having it there in the first place
is so i don't have to remember these important dates
rather, just how to read a chart
but August 27th was always your square
even before i drew candles in the corner
and i dont need a flipbook to tell me how to remember
the anniversary of someone like you
still i wish you'd remember mine

maybe you should try writing it down
its december 30th

Whenever the mist of pain and torment loomed;
And my already broken heart, dashed to pieces
You picked them all and glued them back together, mother
You helped me to resurge, with thousands of amorous kisses

When I was surrounded by deep blue silences and my heart cried in pain
You wept my ocean of tears but, you never shed one
The excruciating pain of my life, was hurting you too
But you always said, ‘My love, the struggles have just begun’

Beneath the tender look, your ardent black eyes beamed rebelliousness
I know that you wanted me to be the woman you never got to be
And so, as a present on your birthday, I make you a promise
That I will always be in the shelter of your arms; I will be the woman you want me to be and nothing will ever sunder you and me.
Speak of the month in which I was born
On the third
Before the other days could steal my blessings
A month in which we put our feet in the sand for it's hot
The skies are beautiful with no darkening of the clouds
The stars to remind us how long we have to live while on earth
So many and no easy to count
A month I do love with my heart
I hope you'll be nice to me
Your child that adds a year today
Happy birthday to me
September 3
My birthday
Yes
A beautiful sky beckons over you
And could come and kneel before you for the angel you are
Years seem easy to count like numbers but the good thing they keeping adding onto what you have
The Lord has seen you in all your endeavours
You have turned out to be the girl all men keeping vying for her attention
Grown to be someone words can't describe because you are amazing in all ways
Will a smile animate your face and make it beam like the sunrise
Will you stay pretty even when you turn grey
Will you have that beautiful heart to take us all in even with our annoying ways
Will you sound beautiful on the phone each time we talk
Will you give the world a beautiful child or even more
I hope the answer to all this is "YES"
Birthday poem to a friend
Brian Turner Aug 2020
Come ye to the meadow of the tooth
Lay down, take nature by the hands
For Autumn is braking aloof
Come join us at the meadow of the tooth

Blackwater invites us to view
The abundant bounty of our youth
Rope swing is first for me
Watch out your napper is near that tree

Break out the picnic full of choice
Scream out your pleasing celtic voice
We leave nothing there to see
Except warm memories of the birthday glee
Memories of a friend's birthday party when I was around ten at the river Blackwater in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. We used a rope to swing into the clean water. A 'napper' is slang for head.
My people!
A wind got into my ears,
I turned and discovered that it was a bird singing a morning song
The melody was beautiful but the lyrics literally were words of gossip
Paying closer attention out of curiosity I heard her say,

Years a ago today,
A maiden was sent down by Ɔbɔadeɛ (the creator) to this land;
The land of gold
Today,
She would be adorned in many colours of wishes from dawn;
A day of memory

On this,
I can not watch we the kinsmen and kinswomen miss
We must never be left out on this all important durbar,
The durbar of honour and merrymaking

So I say,
Join me in paying homage to the dark skinned maiden among the lots in our land
Let the few and the many words of love, sound on the fontomfrom to the lass

My self, I precede with the dancing steps of the lizard,
Nodding to the sounds produced by the drops of palmwine from the beards of the old men in the calash of theirs

Let men, women and children celebrate
Let's keep brightness on the cheeks of the celebrant
Bring out gifts let's present
Our fathers say,
The knee wears not the cap in the presence of the head

Till the sun goes back to rest,
Continuously we offer thanks to him who sits on high
The man who gave us this damsel full of value years ago today

To the maiden we say,
Enjoy your day
Let joy fill you full
In strength we pray to see you in yet another year
In honour of a mate
the day
we celebrate
how much a person has grown

the day
we come together with
those we have known

the day
we sing
till the candle is blown

the day
we know
we wont be alone
is our special day!
