They said I changed a lot,
I answered
A lot changed me.
im a teen, of sorts
17 years and still told to speak up
but I cant tell you to listen
told to speak
but all thats heard is a long drawl
"but you need to stop
grow some thick skin"
shut the F* up
listen to me
cant you see me
cant you hear me
I tell you that hurts
I tell you my pain
but where is the change
"you arent old enough to understand"
im old enough to have a heart
old enough to speak
im old enough to feel
why do you think
every time you cry
I try to help you feel better
ive been there
and if not
ill walk right next to you
for you
so shut up and listen
how todays youth get treated, but yet they have more ideas than just about any adult, so listen to us
He loved the way she laughed,
With all his heart
And
No effort.

Crush

Late night texts
Sleepy eyes
Small smiles
Butterflies

Stolen moments
Held inside
Beating heart
Stupefied

~

Left alone
Tear filled eyes
Chapped lips
Scarred thighs

Empty promises
Cast aside
Broken heart
Terrified

Humble
Dear me,
Don't just sit
Rise, and pursue greatness.

Don't just watch
Go after what you want.

Don't just exist
Strive and start living.

Don't just dream
Work hard and aim for success.

Don't get tired
Keep hiking until you get to the peak.
Dry
"Why do you put up with him?"

Because colors are intensified
When he's in my line of sight
Even the menacing hues
Are better than sepia tone

Because I'm like a flower,
And he is the sun
Although it threatens
To burn me alive

Because I forget yesterday
If he is now
The pain he'll cause tomorrow
Doesn't exist yet

Because he gives life flavor
Vibrant and complex
Which makes the bitter
Preferable to bland

Because his malice
Is juicy and sweet
And his absence
Is cold and dry

I have no business being here,
But I love it,
So I'll
Stay
This is not a poem about my husband, but rather an imagined lover
