After repeated inquiries
into the state of my mind
                                                      you
resort to lingering side-
long glances, trying to
                                                      see
the truth behind my
steadfast denials and
imitation smiles.

You attempt slyness, but
                                                      I'm
quick to notice these
analytical gazes. It's not
your fault that I am
both unable and unwilling
to allow you into
the maze of my mind.

Though hurtful
to us both, it's
                                                      just so
much easier to lash out
than to let you in.

There's simply nothing
                                                      good
in there, you see. Trust
me when I say the terrors
flinging themselves
                                                      at
my brain will gladly
make you their prey too.
No one is safe from my
                                                      sabotage.

Since the only acceptable response to a poem

Is praise

I might as well start out by just basking in the glory

Of my poetic prowess

//

Wow !

Feels good !

//

**** !

Why waste my time even writing the

**** thing ?

No one else seems to make any effort to be clear

But then

What difference does it make

Since quality has been deemed irrelevant

In our meaningless society

And our self - aggrandizing moral stupor !

The NEW WAVE poetry

Has become the

MAKE NO WAVES poetry

And we the poets

Of the

IGNORANCE IS BLISS

social order

//

Congratulations !

••

We have degraded poetry

And art

And love

And life itself

To preserve our egos

••

Feels great !

( less filling ! )

""

So

Thanks for the praise my fellow poets

With our actual real lack of support

For each other

Seeped in the pretensions of

Our phony insightfulness

I feel well equipped now

To live a life of imaginary happiness

And fake love

Thank you thank you

YOU'RE TRULY WELCOME

Every song ends,
Is that any reason
Not to enjoy the
Music?

Every poem ends,
Is that any reason
Not to let the words
Fill your soul?

Every love ends,
Is that any reason
Not to enjoy it
While it lasts?

Every book ends,
Is that any reason
Not to let the author
Reach inside your
Heart?

Every heavy heart breaks,
Is that any reason
Not to let someone try
To fix it?

someday i will forget the taste of your lips like how we forget the taste of gum when we chew for too long. someday the slightest of your touch will not ignite flames on my bloodstream. someday my legs would not falter when you smile or say 'goodnight'. someday i will not miss the warmth of your body at 2am and every time i look at my hands i would no longer look for your fingerprints. someday i will not love you as much as i do now.

someday i won't miss you anymore. someday i will move on and find someone new.

someday..

but right now i don't want to. *right now, i can't.

i used to be able to find you whenever i wanted
like my favourite star in the sky
but now you're just a flicker in my vision
your voice is just another noise in the walls
they said that you cut your hair and got a new tattoo
i couldn't prove it if i tried
we used to need things from each other
like the moon needs something to twirl around
but you are a sun and i am only a lost planet
and the universe is these walls which hold us together
and keep us apart
She believed in love at first sight but had always been disappointed.

He believed that all females are good looking but the soul is the only way to prove their individualism.

A man sits diagonally in front of me
to my left in the diner
Over his shoulder, I see
he’s navigating Facebook
on a cheap laptop
Behind him, I’m writing this poem
Every 13 seconds a notification rings
He has a Facebook message
The notifications are messages from a woman
She types heart shapes in place of words
It is the standard online flirtation
that has replaced real relationships
He is quite popular
as he eats toast with purple jelly
and sits alone

People once came to diners
to chain smoke cigarettes
and drink pots of coffee
and think
and talk
and read poetry
We didn’t have much
but we had each other
Now we’re individuals
who sit in silence
alone

Some of us get chat notifications
Some of us write poems
All of us still get the coffee
and the toast
with purple jelly
To be included in my next collection, **** River Sins.
