Amidst the chaos
and confusion thrives magic
and dark illusions
All those days we talked about our endless dreams
Where worlds lit up and rainbows never die
We'd talk for hours, cause that's what best friends do
We love, live and grow together as one

We fight each other, challenge each other
Never as much as we would fight for each other
We'd talk for hours, cause that's what best friends do
Come rain or sunshine, we'll stand together as one

Through high school dramas and mid-life crises
We found that balance to beat the odds
We'd talk for hours, cause that's what best friends do
Even on our darkest days, we got through it as one

I'm lucky I found my best friend in my mum
I'm truly the luckiest one!
She wanted to watch the sun rise, he escaped as it set

He held her close on her darkest days
He gave her hope that she could find love again
She laughed again, out loud, for the first time in years
For he held her close on her darkest days

He held her close on her darkest days
He gave her time, he paid attention
He broke the walls and calmed the storm within her soul
For he held her close on her darkest days

He held her close on her darkest days
Only to free his hand from hers when she finally learnt to dance in the rain again
She was his project and the end was near
For he only held her close on her darkest days

He held her close on her darkest days
The flowers bloomed but in her soul deep darkness loomed
He promised her sunshine but left her cold rain
For he only held her close on her darkest days
you do not have to struggle
you do not have to fight
you do not have to win
you only have to know
This was a  verse written for my by my father on my first birthday
she was his rainbow
he was her sky
his world changed the moment she was in his arms
all it took was a newborn’s cry

you could see it in her eyes
the depth of his unconditional love undisguised
you could see it in his smile
his newfound purpose and pride

he held her against his chest
as he rocked her to bed
years later she would sit by his feet
while he rocked himself to sleep

he was her greatest strength
she was his biggest fear
fathers and daughters
their love was unspoken yet so sincere

he was her friend, philosopher and father
their relationship was like no other
a bond formed so strong
as the skies transformed from dusk to dawn

nine years later
she still wears his watch
turning it back to the day
wondering what if time could stop

time erases nothing
every precious memory still fills her heart
to this day you can see it in her eyes
the depth of his unconditional love undisguised

their beings were one
their souls entwined
despite this distance
he was, is and will always be mine
She stared out of her window
Hoping to see his pretty face
But hiding beneath the shadows
Were empty promises and malaise

She longed for hope, for love, for him
But all she could hear in that moment
Were unanswered telephone rings
And the words in her mind, unspoken

She stared out of her window
Pages of her diary flipping with the breeze
She turned to her last words just written
Three words, eight letters, inked on paper with ease

Her love for him was like a candle in the wind
Lit by the hope of a bright tomorrow
It shone against the gentle breeze that came in unseen
Flickering in darkness, she lay on the floor wrapped in an everglow
I don’t know who I want to be,
or even if I want to be,
but if I ever am,
I will be…fierce.
