Rearview Mirror
Somi Apr 2021
Meeting his dark eyes
in the rearview mirror
was the highlight of my days.

A fine but shy specimen;
he would avert his gaze
before I could catch them.

The way his hair would
fall on his forehead,
left me enraptured.

I much preferred to look at
the rearview mirror the entire drive
rather than the view outside.

Salt to your Ocean
Somi Aug 2019
"Love me",
Your very existence seemed to whisper to me
Even though the words
never rolled off your tongue

You fixed my soul
You filled in my holes
That I didn't even know existed
You caressed
My darkest demons
and they willingly became your slaves.

How could I not then,
Become your prey
How could I not then
be the salt to your ocean?

Until one day, you decided
to be a lake, surrounded
by snow-capped mountains
and my salt was left on the sands
waiting for your waves
to come and sweep me in your arms

But you never came,
And I never rode with an ocean again.

Death, Maybe
Somi Jun 2019
Lying in my bed
eyes brimming with water
how can I let them
fall down and become mortal
thinking about ways to die
a few minutes after
deciding with a sigh
never to let it overpower
a cycle that continues
and I ask myself
when I am going to run out of my dues
and knock at the door of my end

The Star
Somi Jun 2019
I didn't realize that
I was just trying to replace you with others
But I guess I forgot that
Even the diamonds cannot replace the stars
They say that I had forgotten you and your name
Finally, for you, I have nothing to feel
But what they don't realise is that
You can't forget how to breathe.
Our bodies are miles and miles apart
But our souls are entangled so much with each other
that even my stupid heart
does not allow itself to beat for any other.
