it hits me like a train, the realization

The American Preacher

It must have been in the middle or late fifties that
a famous preacher was coming to our town,
a big circus tent was erected beside the evangelical church
to acuminate the throng.
This was pre-TV time, and there was no entertainment
except walking in the park and feed the birds,
this man's appearance was rock-star news.
He spoke fiercely in English and a person beside of him
translated; it was so odd many people were
in ecstasy hollered hallelujah, and prayed with the preacher.
He was a gigantic fraud of course, and my mother said so too
but she was a communist and disliked America.
Today, in a newspaper on the net I read he had died at ninety-nine.
Billy Graham was his name.

To love or to be loved
That's what I think about when you come to mind
Is it better to stay here and love you
Or to leave and finally be loved
You have always been my top priority
But I was not even second choice for you
My heart sinks to even write this
Because it means I know the truth
It's just hard to accept it.

water and air are two very different things
when you pour water out of a container
you're basically replacing it with air

be less afraid of letting go
there's always something bound to come
to replace it, even if you haven't realized it yet

What's gone has made me what I am
So I shall not fear what's ahead
But put trust in what will be, will be
And choose to live instead

I refuse to live in the now, worrying
What may or may not be
But take this moment in time
And live it totally

There's no time like the present
To breathe deep and feel alive
Living in the here and now
In each moment as I rise and thrive

Now is all there ever is
It's the only time that's real
So as the future takes its course
I’ll leave the past to heal
