Left Ashore
Srishty Mittal Nov 2016
The sun kissed the horizon,
The waves-the shore.
The winds kissed my hair,
But I...
Was left ashore.

She was a poet [10W]
Srishty Mittal May 2015
She could be hurtfully apathetic;
****! she was a poet.
Contrary to how we are supposed to be emotional and compassionate.
Srishty Mittal Apr 2015
He gave you his heart.

You broke it,

and gave him a poem.

Bless You for your treachery.
A poet is ever grateful- for love and heartbreak, both give poetry.

THEN
Srishty Mittal Apr 2015
You say you love me.

When old age takes over,
And I can't move as fast;
Tell me THEN- you love me.

When my lips aren't as soft,
Nor my hips as shapely;
Tell me THEN- you love me.

When my ears dim, and no longer
Can I hear your whispers;
Shout out THEN- you love me.

When I won't have much to give
But my soft, hazy glances;
Tell me THEN- you love me.

But till THEN, don't say-
Only show me you love me.
Love is founded on words, and built by actions.
Or any relation, don't you think?

Simile.
Srishty Mittal Feb 2015
I tried.
I tried to keep away from words.
But every now and then I find myself stealing (reading).

Yesterday, I read:
The heart will find a way to reach what it loves,
however hard the mind tries to hinder.

Then I tried to keep away from you, too.

But every now and then I find myself stealing.

Alas! the heart found that ****** way.

Mama, I don’t wanna go yet
Srishty Mittal Jan 2015
She wakes up with a start-
Tacit fear in her eyes.
Another nightmare-but I know
That a hug would suffice.

Holding her in my arms I think
Of the first time I’d held her.
Holding her in my arms I think
It might the last time- I shiver.

This makes her look up
To see if I were fine
And lift the weight of her hand-
Tangled in pipes and wires- and place it in mine.

I hold back the silent tear
And the muffled cry.
Helpless, my girl, how helpless!
I can’t save you whatever may I try.

The sanitised scent makes me
Furious at this unfair game.
This tender age-an unblossomed flower
Plucked by the disease with no name.

I know you feel what I do
Child, as you look through your hair’s net,
Because the last words you utter before sleeping-
**“Mama, I don’t wanna go yet.”
I know this is a little glum for this time of the year, but it is a reminder that not everyone is celebrating. This is an ode to them.

In the poet’s mind
Srishty Mittal Dec 2014
In the poet’s mind
Are a thousand whirlwinds
Of thoughts.
Distinct, creative, powerful-
Thoughts that can change
Your perception of
All there is.

In the poet’s mind
There is love – fierce love.
Love that will crush you-
Hold you tight, so tight
You have no room for
Anything but love.
Love, that’ll make you glow.

In the poet’s mind
There is as tender a care
As the soft clouds on an Autumn morn.
Care that will gently kiss
Your eyes and plant in them
Visions, dreams, fantasies.
Care, that’ll lift you.

In the poet’s mind
There is forgiveness
So thorough, it will put you
To shame.
Forgiveness so intensely intended
To forgive that
It’ll set you free.

In the poet’s mind
There is passion- edgy, fulfilling.
Passion that’ll keep you on your toes.
Such passion brimming, overflowing,
Shameless, intoxicating.
Passion so vivid, so real
It makes it almost too easy to let go.

In the poet’s mind
A bird brings hope,
Winds bring change,
Rains bring memories,
Moonshine brings horror,
Snow brings dreams,
And you-
You bring poetry (life).
I think all of us can relate to this. Our kind does not have minds which work in the stereotypically 'normal' way. Our minds have chosen the "Road not taken". What do you think?

We, poets.
Srishty Mittal Dec 2014
That’s the thing with us poets.
We fall in love too hard.
We get the worst heartaches.
And we still romanticise it.

Falling?
Srishty Mittal Nov 2014
Dancing to the sound
of your heart,
I realised my feet
had not been touching the ground beneath.
For if s/he is the one, you will never have to look back.

Wistful eyes.
Words yet  left unsaid.
Ink splatters.
Incomplete poems.

Blanket Castles
Srishty Mittal Nov 2014
At the break of dawn,
I turn, mumble, wake and yawn;
And turn to see
You, in our blanket castle.

The dainty sunshine bathes your face;
Of your matted hair, the breeze makes a menace.
I play with shadows of you-
And them I hold captive, in our blanket castle.

Now, the garden swallows twitter on the sill
A familiar longing, in me they instill.
The pillow feathers, the tickling toes, the warm giggles-
I realize- are but memories of you- in our blanket castle.
Suggestions are welcome!

Citylights
Srishty Mittal Sep 2014
Sitting by the roadside, and watching
      Traffic
                 urgent horns
                                        bright lights

Sitting by the roadside, and looking
      Hunger
                  begging children
                                          endless fights.
