She's very much alive
But she is dead to me
The decision wasn't mine
She wanted to be
A tombstone in my mind
A grave inside my heart
A perpetual funeral
That has no end or start
There is no wreath to set
No flowers to lay
The only place that this exists
Is buried in my wake

Look at the child with the rifle
She's posing for a photo
She just doesn't know what it means.
Give it three years, and she still won't know.
Except now her people, now her country have nowhere to go
She's 6 years old with an arms embargo
The country is suddenly three now
The people inside can't see,the people murdered along its beaches can't see.
The people washed ashore can't see.
Air strikes fall somewhere distant.
Militants front and center
Nothing else but to surrender
The country's identity is reduced to its language, their colors and the violence around them
Never did it experience serenity
Fully get the wealth from their oil and luxury
Nobody could guess that people could shake and shimmy along the beaches
Where the nameless faces appear, dreams dust in their open and clenched fists.

Neo Stargazer
As light fades and darkness rises the most beautiful flowers bloom,
glimmering crystals, beneath, above, a spiraling nebula
The wind is stardust kissing my lips, filling my lungs where oxygen is none, and brushing light as petals against my pale skin
The celestial fields cradle me and display a spectrum before my eyes, clusters of all colors, a painting of the galaxy
By midnight soft voices, enchanting spells of dark matter, reverberate through my mind
clearing the static, the shadows, the fear
For once, everything is so gentle, so peaceful, so loving
Until dawn rises and I must return from my place among the stars
Where I'll wait for the harsh daylight to settle,
then return to my gallery of constellations in the heavens

like stars

Like stars
we rise
we shine
we flicker
we turn
we blaze
we burn
we die
we fall.

We live
with mystery,
untouchable
but beautiful.
The energy
we show, misunderstood
except by our creation.
Dwarves compressed by pain,
displayed in open sky
where we hide
all but what we think is light.
But life is in the dark
between us all.
Somehow we see
like stars.
Inspired in the moment I remembered those two shooting stars from last night.

I See You

On your toes you stand,
On my shoulder is a hand,
The other is on my waist.

We find solace in the kiss,
We find the eternal bliss,
A never-ending love we share.

In your hair is lost my breath,
In your eyes be my life & death,
It is forever this love so rare.

We were

Hot like matches,
bright with heat

Fiery candles
lining the street

Warm to the touch,
full of hot air

You and I were
not meant to repair

Where we ended
is all we could be

Like a match,
you and me

We were temporary.
And don't you dare think we were anything more.

I reach
for colourful images, while trying not
to sound pretentious. Often, I fail
but that's alright.
I hate that poetry
has to be searched for, and
is not understood by the masses. I want to write for people, and not just those who took a creative writing elective, or those
that went to high-profile schools. I want to write
so that people have something to read,
to inspire others to create. Art is only for those that can afford the time,
and it seems to me that
there's plenty
to go
Around.
