There was a brave and selfless knight
His armour shone, exceeding bright
And sworn he was, for all his days
To do what he thought right

When once, upon a whim, he took
A shortcut ‘round a little brook
He came upon a pretty maid
And promise he forsook

For came a dragon through the field
The knight his mighty blade did wield
The worm, with flaming wings unfurled
Crashed hard against his shield

Escaped the knight into the wood
When save the girl, only he could
For life he deemed more precious, there
Than doing what he should

The dragon ceased her attack, when
Pursued by braver knights and men
She turned, at bay, and died to save
The young ones in her den

Judge not the greatest nor the least
Until you see the soul in deeds
But now decide, of these two, which
Was nobler... man or beast?
An aegis is an ancient greek type of shield. If someone's aegis was shattered in battle, his brothers-in-arms would protect him from the enemy with their own shields. Someone under such protection was said to be "under the aegis" of his friend. Over time, the word evolved to mean literally both the shield itself and the idea of protection in general.

Cold feet
And she likes the cold she used to know.

The gone heat
Seems like summer came a century ago

The night is dark
She walks along the train tracks like a dying soul.

Her love she'll guard
Until blood shines on her iron sword.

Knight to knight
And storm to storm
She'll stand by her unfaithful Lord

Night to night
And dawn to dawn
He's long gone but his body is warm.

Out it blooms
Like daisies flourish in the springtime.

Her life she'll doom
But there's still hope through those haunting crimes.

And if she stays
Maybe her life will solve with a big climb.

Knight to knight
And storm to storm
She'll stand by her dying Lord

Night to night
And dawn to dawn
She'll cloak herself in a reckless ward.

Pain in chest
Pounds and with
Each inhale
Stabs of lightening
Like I swallowed a taser

One glance skyward
And then I shift my position

Death might not be all that bad
Just the sharp pains leading up to it

"There's a light at the end of the tunnel"
It seems that this tunnel may have no end

Worship false idols and wear empty titles
It seems that this may be the trend

Hate in diplomacy; drown in monotony
It seems I may break and not bend

There's a blown light at the end of this tunnel
It seems I may force it to end

I may have written;
A thousand flowery words.
All of them fell short,
Paltry, meager rendition;
Of such beauty that is you.
Words were never enough.

I can be a better woman.
I can be a better wife.
I can be a better mother.
I can have a better life.

We can pack our bags together
Move somewhere by the sea.
We can say **** the world
Because this is the best we're meant to be.

I'm not a princess darling
You don't ride a white horse.
There's no one coming to save us
You're the hero of course.

So whisper in my ear.
Please tell me one more time.
These broken dreams were never promises
And everything will be fine.

If I knew what it was
I would know how to help it,
I could soothe its scars
Caress away the doubts.

Free it so it soared.
Defeat the shackle bearers
When they came for it
They came for me.
a poem about the soul
I wish I had done different,
Had never given love,
Had never given hope consent,
Or somehow been enough.

I wish it could be easy now
To give my heart and word
To press a kiss upon your brow
Or even to be heard.

But hope is false and love is trite;
I'm lonely in my bed tonight.
you fooled me.
