I've decided
to re-live the Earth
I'm going to take
with my bare hands
the soil and *** more
plants...
After that I will listen
to the wind and discover
its secrets
then I will pray to the
Earth and Sun and Moon
giving thanks for
Her guardianship over me
I will speak with reverence
for my home the Earth
for her waters, her trees,
her wild pastures, and
the days and nights of her skies...
And so it is...

Anger should
be a reed
or a flute
each breath a trigger
to make you into
a happy villain
that will float you away

I am the one
being willed
but  I can
take my righteous
*** out of the equation

So I got redirected
and reconciled into
a new mode
of thinking

God bless
the trash you
heed like a
motherdome
and god bless me

It's a disaster
what we're doing
to the ocean
january has come
and gone but
we haven't gone yet
No high reverence for
what has made us
No tears
just the pain
we keep inflicting
the same sadness
what we lay in the waters
will become the death
of us
and we will be gone
to see no more januaries
or oceans
leaving
just the residue of
extreme stupidity...

Once you know
there is no opting out
like a quaint thing
yet there are spaces for
the timid too, but not this space
This space is exclusive
For you only

And for the ones
ready for the baton
who will
run wanton with all
of the bones and audacity
they could wildly gather

Once you know the soul
of your being
there is no opting out
just the sheer breadth of
possibility
to let the shower of truth
grace over you with its atoms

Once you find your own
here and now
you will forever
know and be known
by more than
a billion
molecules of
dust and matter...

And all of this is for you
and you only

There are cunning
ways to make you
love again
without having
to make you swoon
or spin like a clever
little top.
to take you from
this still life and
make you heave
again. breathe.
Then go faintly in
reverent steps
toward the world
with love.
Nihilism is a trap. Love again.

“You wander from room to room
Hunting for the diamond necklace
That is already around your neck!”
― Rumi

I thought it was over
your last breath
whispers from eternity
told me different
how I could feel
your presence
in the room
like you came from
the womb of space
to let me know
that from destruction
comes a new existence
unseen but real
luminous and deep
Soul is the prana
of life and you are
the breath the light
and the eternal...
poetry is soul work.

It comes from nowhere.
this faint knowing
of what it is to be.
an ancient speaker
is talking in tongues
but your ego won't hear it.
the desert of chatter
has him occupied.
But the ego is probably
the Sun.
Shining down on
all there is.
when he is eclipsed by silence
you begin to truly see
what kind of beauty there
really is.

Don’t weep
you cure the sick air
with a robust love
Passing out redemption
Like lollipops for broken dreams
You are the reluctant warrior
Here to mend torn casualties
from mankind’s cruelty
a new dawn has emerged
with every shift you take
You know who you are
In the trenches muddy
And sodden but moving
Steadily towards
A towering grace
Thank you.

Pick them
While the moon is ripe
harvest your intentions
amongst the elderberries
For it is the time
of the night sky
everything dark
has its own reflection
cast your spells this evening
like the black goddess
cloaked in silvery madness
Don't be shy and
afraid of your truth
Be like the moon
hiding Her face in
the protection of clouds
Tanisha Jackland Mar 2022
We have been guilty
when the mind takes over

heed the human debris

but let the ego    go

it does not need
to be taken hostage

OR

Smacked in the face

lend a soulful ear, instead

don't test the waters just yet

see it
for the ego wants to
be seen

then proceed
with extreme caution

until you feel the
depths of your being
anchor you

let go

move in the heart

Then

every action
will be exactly what
is needed

let the cleansing of
time wash over you
and move in peace
Tanisha Jackland Oct 2016
Your truth is
what makes
beauty

It navigates your heart

Hear your pretty beating
past the mirror
where
No one can see you
or have dominion over you

Close your eyes, girl
to meet the unseen
the true beauty
of your heart
Tanisha Jackland Oct 2019
God is a
shapeshifter
molding paste you
bone for bone
She is the woman
you can not stand
Hand on hip
slapping the
peak of Her
thigh like ***

God is madman
with dope beats
He's got you hooked
already
splicing sounds
into notes as
He watches you
shake your *** like
a possession

God is You

I am as predictable
as the wind
with its current
drifting me alongside its
great passage

I am in no hurry
I just got here
and plan to stay
for awhile

listening to the music
of the wind
sing so soft and sweet
as though the pain
of being unheard
was just too much

I exist here
loved and lonely
like the wind
but embodied
until it decides
to capture me again
Tanisha Jackland Nov 2020
I am older
No longer strangled by
blinded naivete
with a smudge
of silly
embracing the white
invasion
in every crevice
of my body
I am a glacier
receding into
the extinction of Me
Now that I am closer
to the fervent void
I will savor
this child free air
a crone and a mystery
to thee
Tanisha Jackland Apr 2018
The roses aren't ripe
they still run the
sullen color of the sky

the berries are bitter still
they will turn
your mouth against you
if you are not careful

the bananas haven't
softened and sweetened
and melted on your tongue
that is how I know
there is something healing
and urgent upon the wind
which cannot be destroyed
Healing from the inside out...

She lives in an
abundance of time
lucky for her
her heart
broken to bits and pieces
like the good ole china
your mother warned
you to be mindful about
She weeps looking
here and there
for the remedy to
stop the stabbing
pain of betrayal
but finally she comes
to realize
the cut that wounded
her so deep
will only mend
by the lonely
delicate hand
of time...

My heart
beats like
a light
in action
it speaks
the truth
and knows
what I don't.

I am city no doubt
love the safe haven
of instability
and fast-moving cars
no room for death
There was a time
I was connected to the bracken
to the brooks and the wide open
fields filled with flowers
from the pages of yore
Nature spoke to me
the forest whisperer
I was in an enchanted land
created by me
I took refuge there
youth shielding me
from apathetic eyes
at the lonely black
girl talking to the sky.

We are the toxic breath
that has permeated the air
we are noxious and noisy
and lumbering thru our days
like the ill-acquainted tourist

We made the pollution
for our ears
as the monsters continue
to take what was never
theirs in the first place

so we keep secrets under
our tongues afraid of
stumbling over the truth

We are nothing but the ugly
sound of humanity
paving over the goodness
of the land...
Earth good.  Man not.
Tanisha Jackland Feb 2017
The earthly judge
say you not guilty
of this your white deceit
but woe onto you
when the real judge come

She come down heavy like
a freight train full
of thunder rolling up
her righteous sleeves...
Burning down black churches, gunning down black people at bible study, killing unarmed black folks and getting away with it. Here on Earth, anyway. Take heed.

He said my magic was brown
It was the bed of the earth

I filled him with mirrors
Better to see him

I tasted him pliant on my tongue
Better to eat him
He became my sacrament

He said I moved
slow like lava

I bled into his steps
He heard his carrion
Rising out of another dream
Tanisha Jackland Sep 2016
He   will never know me
Just  his arrogance
His   conceited brow
His   norm fitting hubris
He    lacks the color
of     blood
The  fathoms of gold
The   luster of soul
If     there are no feels
So     do you too

The key to women
Is a thinking man
Not a drinking man
Who can open up a
Stinking can of spam

We’ve dealt with a lot
And we know how to spot
The dead end plot
Of men just wanting a fling

We are deep individuals
Not just pretty plated visuals
For you to beep
Whenever you peep
You creep

So give us our props
Then maybe we’ll drop…

You a line or two.
As if you didn't know. The truth is we are all human and deserve to be treated as such. But most importantly, we all have souls, you know, those delicate magical little things inside us all? Speak to each other's soul. That is why poetry is so important. It speaks to what is unseen and true. Remember this. Be playful, spontaneous and protect what is sacred.
Tanisha Jackland Mar 2019
It's all coming
into fruition
The cat calls from
desperate ones
look who's
desperate now

the one time
I left him
I burnt the petition
to God
mad and raging
the beauty of falling apart
in an asylum

The full impregnated moon
has dominion
over us

So I may be detained
for awhile
just until I get my hiss speak on
just until I go spinning
like the whirling
dervish in love again

but always moving toward
the final grace of an eternal love
Tanisha Jackland Sep 2016
Men drove the sun away
then they blamed it
on the moon

We have become
endangered

Will they take our fire
if we sit here exiled
consuming each other

Let's not brine our wounds
like we have nothing left
Hoard the fire...
Tanisha Jackland Apr 2020
They are self less
Holding up the sky with
compassionate limbs
they guard
The world for nothing
True poets
with silence as their tongues
Sacrificing their lives
to get a peek
at life animating
knowing the dark
Sustenance of the ground
To walk on land
with sacred feet
Tanisha Jackland Jan 2019
I never saw you.
Just the sound of you. wafting loud
thru the mid-night air.

The low cadence of your
exhale eased me. Us.
Sent us to sleep.
But we laughed at the
awkward noise. wounds showing.

Each night you planted grove
after grove. inside my heart.
centering me still. the rhythm.
the steady meditation.

The slow stream of your breath.
So that when you were gone.
I missed it.
We sync with others and just don't know it.

This is not another
poem about wild
uncouth women
and their wiles
those plethora of ways to
grab men's attention

This is about brutality
how he speaks to her in flesh
men with brutal words
speak with brutal tongues
Hit with brutal hands
as if that would make her
more available

as if women were
all gold grabbers
but
kindness never
crosses his mind

she is the pretty prize
he is the lip licking
fangs *****
with nothing to do
but ravage
her naivete...

I'm not going there
to the dark side of what
frightens you, darling

I am bewildered with
the songs of ghosts

I dream in prophecy
Got the proclivity towards
mastering hands on healing

Not knowing if my father
is dead or alive
I heard him dreaming

He spoke to me from
the clouds like he
was the lord

my lord was a happy
golden color with
the power to leave
these crusted old
familial wounds
of miscommunication
behind...

which has torn us
all asunder

I may have been
forgiven by them
those who once or thrice
had forsaken me

but I say I am a bewildered fool
not going to the dark side
just yet...

The memory of
the stones
are in the dead and
hidden near the
roots of trees.

The stone remembers
by telling on us
our unwise ways.

How we walk
the earth like
sullen gods
disregarding deity
ridden promises.

The stone remembers
but not like us
holding grudges
and peering into
madness...
Listen if you'd like.

they say that you are a waste of breath. But I see you trying to imitate art. the art of being human. it never ran thru you. Never was your thing. the human chord. just the mean streak and those loathsome ways. i say keep striving for that brass ring on how to breathe. keep imitating what is clearly human. then join the those of us who consider breath a treasure. join the few who will dedicate their breath to another and another.

You feed the void with monsters.
I've bled
not because
I am a
broken sinner

I've bled
because I
am woman
harbinger of
new moons
and unspoken
mysteries

I've bled
life into the impermanent
landscape of the soul
like gravity
holding you down
in spite of the spinning

I am the fierce
darkness
traversing the
universe
barefoot

In this
black moment
I am forever
I carry
this womb
with the honor of
mothers before me

Now I am woman as crone
ushering in the new world
of infinite love and magic

I am an awkward child
I do not know how
to win your fine graces
or how to fake the swagger
of knowing it all
I stutter like I'm stupid
and I quiver like I am scared
I can disappear with the
best of them
A nobody
Just a blip in the macrocosm
of life
like a tiny seed in the bed of Earth

They told
lies with cold wives
sent their idle mothers
to die on tides
those treacherous nights
lead men to fight and
take flight
But She
was sent here
thru Her own thighs
they demised her wise and
planted her
six feet high
in the sky...

You have not defined me
I do not dwell within the obvious
where you disregard the
potential of these transparent wings
i exist in wandering dimensions
that spiral unseen like
time in dark matter
dark does matter and i wear
this body like it was exposed
but born free

If God is not
a great harsh
old man in the sky
with alabaster skin

Then who is She?
Live life authentically...

I hope to leave you
some meaning
from the clutter of this madness
something with a somber bite
to bring you out of your slumber
pssst
you know you've been asleep
for far too long, my love
It's in the song you've
heard a million times
the answer is in the melting
and to never hold on hard
Don't listen to them
with their ceaseless chatter
You are beyond the
veil of reality
You are nowhere
but here now
like I am.
I love love and invite it into my life at every turn. I am grateful, thankful and free...

If you could swim inside this womb
to take a warm slow bath in the blood,
I’d piece together those moments
of borrowed flesh

I am conjurer crafting
water from stagnant air and
I eat fire to rinse my bones
clean of the soot

I have risen from insolvent wing
to remake the dead into eternal things
I have birthed the big bang with the
Friction of my lips

Some of the dead have been named
And shot through the roots
to live on deciduous

We belong inside the belly of this world
Playing tag to wind songs and *******
with naked eyes

We seem separate.
like we are living as
the mimic of
the other.
Mirrors. all of us.
deciding to make
faces on the
shiny walls.
Funny. to bring life
to the pain of
existing. Separate.
but we'd like to exclude
part of ourselves.
and forget
we are like the other. Them.
We think they
are enemies to
the state of our being.
But we cannot live
without the other.
Nor can we live
without spirit.
We are The Source
from where we originated.
So save
everything. and
greet yourself with
love. For everybody.
Nothing is not sacred.
Tanisha Jackland Mar 2018
I forgot who I was
for awhile
numbed my body
with bitter pills
vented this madness
thru my hair
the color of furtive soil
Is it futile
to reminisce
on this
the long and forgotten
distress of my obligations
Or
I am the soul
that moves me
to goose step
with you because
it's nicer and
more polite that way

I wish I was louder
so that you could
feel me coming
from miles away

I felt her coming
but I forgot what she
was coming for...
Dreams be messin with yo head

Water is blood
it flows flawless sacred
from the head of mountains
to the feet of forests
sometimes still
****** to your lips

I'll never understand
the apprehension
for water
like cursing the woman
who gave you life

Water eludes those
who would besiege her
The undeserving ones
The haters who would burn her
at the stake if she were to
manifest

Alas water being
the blueprint
for life is merciful
to us all
and a tireless enigma
of the female sort

I got sleepy flaws
stinky flaws
look the other way flaws
professional flaws
whole body flaws
And I am utterly hopeless

I got sloppy flaws
hoarding flaws
nosy flaws
forgetful flaws
And I got the martyr flaws blues

wild card flaws
petty flaws
know-it-all flaws
And you can't tell me nothing

I see my flaws as they are
as they come
undeniably human
and soulful
and me
Embrace your flaws you are human after all.

The moon is under-rated.
Tanisha Jackland Dec 2015
When the moon is waning
drink up the sleeping sky
And fall into the night

She defends you even
In your naked failings

You who would worship the
intrusion of the Sun

You who would amply deny the
Protection of evening’s grace

She is of silver and magic
the stuff made of secrecy

Behold the night in all her
Dark majesty
And she shall set you free
