Long lost soldier
Mr E Writer Apr 2021
Coastal benches tell a tale
of loves long since past
marriages of yesteryear did not fail
they were surely built to last
each one you sit on or peruse
fill up your heart with hope
love was something you didn't refuse
that's how they learned to cope
the joining of hands in matrimony
was something to adore
to relish in your company
He'd asked for nothing more
surely when they gave their vows
their hearts were to be as one
missing pieces broken now
long gone the spirit of fun
yet here I sit, upon this bench
lost in thought and sorrow
I think of heroes in a trench
lost soldiers of tomorrow
war time sadness for those not to return
a family becomes disjointed
hearts ache until they burn
no longer reunited
Love is worth fighting for, dying for and I miss it dearly. Long journeys aren't always fun are they?

Fickle things
Mr E Writer Apr 2021
April fools no laughs
what prank shall we play this year
another child hurt
Too many people doesn't always mean a better outcome, it often means too many people clambering around making fools of each other and creates easily avoided confusion and dysfunction. Keeping things simple means keeping it real.

Mr E Writer Mar 2021
shopping mall charging
hope silent in a corner
windows empty souls
Being homeless makes everything difficult, finding a place to sleep, missing family, friends and loved ones, asking for spare change for food and drink is tougher than it looks, initially at least anyhow,   windows have become empty reflections of their usual selves hauntingly enhanced by Covid19. Charging my phone is awkward and strange, I get it done in a quiet corner of a local mall until I'm spotted and asked to leave. Tomorrow is another day...

Mr E Writer Mar 2021
pied wagtails seek food
rare quiet times suit them best
pigeons rule the roost
These little birds go about their day happily seeking out morsels of nourishment but sadly the trait of shyness goes against them with the adversely more adaptable pigeons around town.

Mr E Writer Mar 2021

heart, mind, body and soul dies
hope still lingers on
Times are tough right now but I will persevere. A winner won't succeed by quitting but might garner a tiny morsel of love for trying to stay strong.

A memory of silences pt2
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
I closed my mouth and spoke to you
in six hundred silent ways
we rose up to, our challenge new
our lives not out of phase
I closed my mouth and spoke to you
in eight hundred silent ways
so take a pew, as our love grew
a marriage it's part plays
I closed my mouth and spoke to you
in seven hundred silent ways
our babe anew, we saw it through
this life can still amaze
I closed my mouth and spoke to you
in nine hundred silent ways
colours few, a different hue
a fresh and modern maze
I closed my mouth and spoke with you
in one thousand exciting ways
there's just a few, like morning dew
our eyes still brightly gaze

Inner City Chaos
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
Busy bustling no time to rest
Wheeling dealing, hustling at best
Always moving fast not slow
Quick on your feet is how you must go
No time for thinking or taking a breather
Inner city life means you must be a weaver
Car horns hooting in Barking or Tooting
Not much of a chance to hear owls hooting
Trees are thinning, concrete is winning
I’m not that averse to say cities are sinning
I fear for our children the air they inhale
Polluted by fumes a modern horrific tale
Asthma, cancer, lung problems aplenty
Hurting us badly not killing us gently
Time for this planet is running out fast
Global warming denial really won’t last
So think of YOUR children when you can
Fill up your car with more than one man
Turning off lights or unplugging your phone
Isn't much til you make nature your home

A memory of silences pt1
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
I closed my mouth and spoke to you
in one hundred silent ways
I looked at you, pain tore me in two
and darkened all my days
I closed my mouth and spoke to you
in two hundred silent ways
without a clue, what could I do
my clouded heart dismays
I closed my mouth and spoke to you
in three hundred silent ways
saw me through, my feelings spew
my dear you must appraise
I closed my mouth and spoke to you
in four hundred silent ways
I'm still here too, my soul now blue
lift the fogginess and haze
I closed my mouth and spoke to you
In five hundred silent ways
what can we two, once stuck like glue
have hope our fear allays

Ageless beauty
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
Misspent youth or age with grace
fates just land upon our lap
try to breathe and save face
or simply take another nap
time consuming, hard and fast
slowly feeling, blindly moving
as the first stone has been cast
rippled skin no longer smoothing
age defying are we lying
can we really last that long
or are we all just slowly dying
losing heart and inner song
tales of year's long gone by
each unique and often warming
I cannot question what or why
just enjoy each day's new dawning
soak up learning, sharing caring
love and laughter cures your ills
if you can be bold be daring
heartfelt love that overspills
look up and forward or reminisce
dream of treasure pure as gold
living life is a lingering kiss
embrace the beauty of getting old

Burning Tears
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
Another second, another minute
Drains my will when you’re not in it
Another day, another night
When you’re not here just isn’t right
Another week or maybe two
That’s the nightmare of not being with you
Another month, another year
This would be my greatest fear
I can’t live without you for that long
My heart would lose its inner song
These times that we have been apart
Feel like my ending, not my start
Life is hollow, barren and bare
I hate myself for not being there
My heart feels broken, damaged, undone
Without you for my number one
I feel alone and can’t survive
Your love for me baby keeps me alive
My eyes are now so full of tears
Burn like memories from long ago years
My feelings of such loss and sorrow
Tell me to yearn for a brighter tomorrow
But that just simply cannot be
Until I have you here with me
I need you now more than ever it seems
For you my sweetheart are all of my dreams

Life in the slow lane
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
Rushing around like a nutcase
Is that how life should be?
We shouldn’t be in a rat race
One day we will all see
Taking our time is essential
More haste less speed is so true
Being human isn’t just a credential
It also means I’m like you
Life can rush past us too quickly
So stop to gather your thoughts
Speed often makes us seem prickly
Slow down to enjoy its reports
Next time you’re out walking
Or on a train or in a car
Take a deep breath whilst talking
And look at surroundings afar
There’s a picture laid right before you
How beautiful it is in your mind
I hope you’re sharing it, please do
Relax, breathe and be kind
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
Life is a struggle, it can be a bind or a fix
we’re all here to juggle, it’s all in the mix
the trials of hardship make you feel sorrow
but never forget, there’s always tomorrow
Try to take it one day at a time
don’t overload, there’s a reason a rhyme
let your life flow, set yourself free
just accept who you are, what will be will be
Remember no matter who you are
there’s someone who cares, near or far
Just try to be happy, make your life fun
you don’t get two shots, you only get one
Lots you can do to make things better
explore the world, be a go getter
don’t give up, don’t be a quitter
yes life is hard but it aint down the *******
Look this way, there’s worse off than you
if you saw them what would you do?
tell them to jump, or lend them a hand
a shoulder to cry on, if that’s their demand
Suicide is final, it’s your last port of call
no one one’s a winner, no one at all
we should be caring, thoughtful of others
even enemies, or two star crossed lovers
Make this your beginning, not your end
go on and claim it as yours my good friend
think of the wonders you’ve yet to find
Make all the doubters, think and rewind

adrenaline it's potion

Secret Wishes
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
I was walking through a glade in the woods
basket laden with forest found goods
mushrooms, wild garlic and such like
well worth the early morning hike
it was not yet time for berries and such
which I have a sweet tooth for so much
but as the sun shone further ahead
something caught my attention instead
walking further along the trail
I came to a moss coated wooden hand rail
I followed the path down which it led
and saw a wishing well in an old rose bed
I peer into the gloom of the hole of the well
it was thirty feet at least I could tell
so I ruffled my pockets for a penny or two
thinking that's what you're supposed to do?
I found an old two penny piece
threw it in with a wish for my niece
she's up in heaven watching us all
probably laughing and joking as I recall
Fiona had a heart that was gold
her humour comical, the stories she told!
I'll never forget the day she was born
her sweet little face gave a feeling so warm
She truly was one of life's little gems
Sewed us together at cuff, waist and hems
This little secret part of the woods
gave me more than forest found goods.
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
There’s a life outside my window
That’s almost impossible to see,
This life that I am talking about
Is where I’d like to be!
I have missed out on so many things
Because I wasn’t looking,
Now I have to make it sure,
There is no second booking.
These blinkers that have blinded me
Were there of my own accord,
The way I treated my own life,
Was something I could ill afford!
So let’s end this on a happy note
By saying it’s not yet done,
I may have been stupid and ignorant,
But my life has just begun

The Snowfall
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
As daytime ends, my windows frost.
I drift in thought to my younger years
Like an old time friend, who was once lost
I’m crying inside, but there are no tears
The snow is settling, ****** white,
no footprints or trails to mar its splendour
A flurry falls to feather the night
As I recall my joyful childhood fervour
Of how I used to scream, laugh and play,
with loved ones, ignorant to the bitter cold
To capture that innocence for one more day,
fend off this sensation of growing old
In my sleep, I dream of times long past;
the glistening fields of pure driven snow
Remembering how I wish this would last
But sadly with time, you can't stop its flow
Snowmen built; carrot, scarf, hat and stones
Long since forgotten and long since thawed
Deep in my dream like so many old bones,
artist’s brush strokes, colourful and broad
As dawn appears, I’m awoken with haste
My child’s eyes excited with anticipation
“Come on Daddy," “we can’t lie to waste”
“The snow has fallen”, she cries in elation
I jump out of bed, we both dress up warm
Snowman built, and a snow angel was made
My baby and I were both on full form
Childhood memories are not meant to fade

Time Flies
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
In the meadow so green and lush
the wind flays about, no need to rush
as grasses gently sway to and fro
the air not still just a fine gentle blow
Trees in the distance make their sound
I feel simply pleasure for being around
birds and insects all play their part
wonders bestowed from natures heart
This beautiful pasture that earth provides
its raw emotion never subsides
as the day goes on through time
we recollect our thoughts sublime
The sky its vivid hue of blue
soft billowy clouds are part of the view
poppy heads of scarlet red
wave their faces as if hands instead
Tiny white daisies barely seen
are too far down in the foliage green
but there alone with a beauty unique
a dandelion clock, past its floral peak
Then a gust of fresh air blew
up up and away those pretty seeds flew
way into a sky full of dreams
passed by rivers, lakes and streams
Until they settled in the earth bed
to prepare for the new seasons ahead
there it once stood all by itself
a dandelion clock, a sign of good health

Mr E Writer Mar 2021
No ones a winner in a war of attrition
All wanna be top dogs jostling position
These fake winners are losers, empty at best
minds that work with their hearts will attest
Give up being selfish, greedy or tough
Be patient take the smooth with the rough
A dreamer a thinker a go getter if you wish
Always remember you ain't number one fish

Vacation Elation
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
Little boy Freddie was going out in the sun
with family and friends the day would be fun
They’d packed a picnic full of surprises
anticipation and excitement rises and rises
The bat and ball was placed in the car
a Frisbee, a football were we going far?
Next in line were a bucket & *****
and a parasol to keep us cool in the shade.
A wind breaker too, does that mean a beach?
Freddie screeched at the top of his speech!
Mum got a map, so we knew where to go
Sister Ellie, the sun cream avoids a red glow.
The neighbour given our spare set of keys
to care for our pet rabbits, Twinkle & Breeze.
Freddie was asked to get into his seat
Strapped in all ready, tidy & neat.
Ellie sat beside him and gave him a smile
are you ready? We’ll be here a while.
Mummy & Daddy went back inside
to fetch other things along for the ride.
Picnic food would be blowing Mum’s diet.
The biggest surprise was kept very quiet.
Little Freddie unaware did not have a clue
of what was to come, how about you?
The last things were placed on the roof rack
two suitcases of clothes all ready and packed.
Daddy was driving so got into his seat,
Mummy beside him with Google map sheet.
Our friends were already on their way.
We were off on holiday

Without You
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
My days are so lonely and puerile
They merge like the sun to the sea
My being is so empty and futile
Without you here I’m just not me

My tears when they fall burn like fire
They can’t understand why you’ve gone
My mind is a bird cut by wire
When it should’ve been singing its song

My emotions are just like tomorrow
They’re not healing or easing with time
My feelings of such pain and sorrow
Only you are my reason, my rhyme

My desolate thoughts too abundant
They’re all I have to hold on to
As a man I feel so redundant
Why can’t I be there with you?

My humour has all but given in
Laughter a thing of the past
A smile, a grin, a keep up your chin
Are my thoughts of you that will last!

My nights are so lonely and empty
They’re cold and so lacking in life
My heart it feels so heavy and weary
Without you my beautiful wife

Word Play
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
Playing with words is so good to do
But I don’t do it often enough.
Words I believe are healthy for you
But getting them right can be tough.
But tough is just a word you see,
So don’t get in too deep.
As words should only ever flow free!
They are never awake or asleep.
intense as they are when said such a way,
It’s easy to get it all wrong.
Whether it’s work or whether it’s play,
They will often come into song.
Being relaxed to find the words
Is all that you need to do,
This might sound strange or even absurd
You just have to trust in you!
To finish this off in a positive light
I think is the way to go
Otherwise I could be here all night
And then it’ll lose its flow.

Autumn's Keep
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
With the hazy days of summer gone,
the days grow short, the night times long.
Leaves on trees that were vibrant and green,
now red, gold and brown, soon not seen.
Creatures prepare for winter's long sleep,
food hidden, it's now autumn's keep.
No longer the flutter of butterflies,
just rainy days from darkened skies.
Flowers that bloomed, reduced to a husk,
blowing in shadow in the low sun of dusk.
Windows stay shut, to keep out the cold,
time for warmth, for both young and old.
The harvest season has all but gone,
a few autumn raspberries all that hang on.
winter draws near, the snowfall will come,
hot toddies, Christmas, best time for some.
Three seasons passed, now at years end,
but the cycle of life is a most reliable friend.

Writing my poems
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
My feelings are hard to put into words
Sometimes it just feels so right
When I get home and I’m tired and weak
At the very end of the night
I make myself coffee and something to eat
To go at my own steady pace
Writing my poems is important to me
Without them I’d feel out- of- place
Being able to set myself free
Is something I did not know!
Just writing my poems whenever I can
Gives my ability room to grow
I hope that my poems are good to read
The way I meant them to be
As much as I enjoy writing them
Without you they’re just not me!
Mr E Writer Mar 2021
Getting up in the mornings
is essential to your health.
All those early dawnings,
will offer you a wealth,
of golden opportunities
as pure as the rising sun,
and give you daily fortuities
until your day is done.

Midday is also vital
for the life that you will lead
this time of day by title
can deliver all you need
Lunch with friends and colleagues
or a casual stroll in the park
may help dissipate all fatigues
it can light up your heart when dark

But dusk can be the most beautiful
for it’s when the stars come out
so your thinking is less dutiful
you make time to think about
the day that has just been and gone
to look at how it went
and fix anything that may be wrong
this makes it heaven sent
