What stays on your mind,
no matter what you’re doing,
no matter what has your time…
What stays on your mind?
Should you add
another cloud
to rain above my head,
I'll bring the light
to make it shine
and create a rainbow,
instead.

And should the day
turn into night
before we've had our time,
I'll sing for the stars
and the moon above
to see the black sky
shine.
Your eyes light up with the excitement of the season
For those of us without peace, we have no reason

We struggle and we fight just to feel a sense of belonging
As your excitement builds for the holidays
And your children are longing

Many of us no longer want to fear this season
I try as hard as I can, as I can’t give up for one reason

I never want my husband to feel as if I don’t love him
Because I’ve lost all that I once had to celebrate ‘tis the season

I carry this pain around inside my heart
My mind wanders back to before it turned dark

I miss that life, as chaotic as it could be
I miss the people that are gone, the ones I’ll never see

I wish for a renewal of the spirit I am missing
It's been so long; I think I’ll just go on wishing
I'm thinking of the 70's
And how it'd really be a hoot
To bring that one thing back
That we all secretly would love to do

No I'm not talking discotheques
Or the donning of leisure suits
I'm talking about stripping down
To nothing but our tennis shoes

We could start out in the mall
Since that's were most of us hang out
Amid all the teenage screams
Between all the incredulous shouts

With security running here and there
In a tizzy there about
If they have the nerve to catch us
No way are they going to pat us down

We might even get our 15 minutes
As news camera closely chase us
Blurring out our naked bodies
Leaving only happy faces

Spending most the time in edit
As we bend to tie our laces
So grab your canes and grab your walkers
And we'll head off to the races

Of course that is a major problem
Barely spry no longer young
With the drooping of most everything
Being issue number one

And seeing most of you in your birthday suits
Doesn't sound like that much fun
And how in the world can we call it streaking
When it'll be more like hobbling
I've a lingering scratch
In the throat,
An irritation
As I spoke;
I coughed, I choked,
And spewed out the last
Off-coloured joke.

There was a ringing
In my ear,
A clappering sound
You rang for years.
I blocked and stopped
And turned away
To silence the slurs
I refuse to hear.

I've black floaters
In my eyes,
The only colour
I surmise;
Other shades now subside;
I'm looking forward
With clear brown eyes.
O, dearest and most capable coffee cup
How I couldn't bear to be without you
Your smooth ceramic
Cradling my mornings like fog in the distance
How empty you are 'fore the coffee is done
I can't help but feel the pang of bittersweet longing
Yet, when full, your silken, brittle body
Becomes the most fantastic vessel
Housing the warmth of my soul
O, dearest and most capable coffee cup
Were it not for you, I'd be much more a lump
Than a regular human being
And forevermore, you shall be
My greatest friend

Behind reason
Fear resides
Under an illusion of control
We walk tall into nights

Where entropy awaits
The ashes of stars
I fear a new existence
Means less than we are

And so here I try to imagine
What more there could be
In the end of all I know
Fear resides within me...
