you're welcome.
welcome here.
welcome into my life
welcome into
my heaven and my hell
here
meet my demons
and the Angels
that help me fight them
welcome here
where music is sometimes
the only way I can feel
welcome to your new home
welcome to
a broken home that has
adopted habits and mannerisms that
make the walls sag
and groan
with pains
a home that fosters
echoing memories
welcome home to emptiness
aching
for fulfillment
welcome home to a mess on the floor
the kind that everyone else just stepped over and ignored

except you
you bent down and quietly picked up the shards of shattered beliefs
you showed them to me and said
"let's put this back together"
and we did
we sat at the coffee table
that before
was just another trip hazard
now serves
as the foundation
for the picture we're putting together
piece by piece
and suddenly
I'm laughing
and the walls are brightly colored
and there are windows open
to a grand sunrise and
for the first time
I realized
I had stopped holding my breath
because I didn't have to count to a million failures
to find
a fresh start

if you've never cried
while singing along to a song in your car
I highly recommend it
I recommend feeling your voice shake
as your mouth forms
the words your mind
knows by heart
I recommend screaming the lines
that hurt
the most
and letting the raw emotion
exist.
yes
you always feel like this
but today
I recommend
that you actually
let yourself
feel it.

wake up
it's a cold sweat
but a red-hot dream
that stabbed you in the side
like a dull rusty blade
that nobody remembered to clean
breathe deep, it was just sleep
but what if you weren't quite free
what if the Deep called you back
and you found out what your brain
decided to keep
hidden between the neurons
you've forbidden yourself from
"look no further"
you tell yourself for the umpteenth time this week
but you know
it'll happen again
you don't know when
but soon
it'll be you and them
in the room where you bled
and not even in the way that gets
someone's attention
you're gonna claw
and you're gonna scream
but who will hear?
it's a mascot's dream
and while we're here
who's team are you on?
this dream won't just disappear
but it's not even a dream anymore
dreams don't leave you waking up sore
you have to get out
you have to escape
but wait
it looks likes there's some more

stop
not again
you've done this before

what's really difficult to ignore
and I'm just curious how
the light fades
right as the punch line rolls out
and maybe one day you'll get
that fists were never meant
for the inside of your skull
and maybe one day you'll know
that the inside of this hull was
compromised by those
overboard thoughts
the one's you mocked:
"it's probably nothing"
but it's not.

so here i am again
staring at nothing
wondering where it is that i went wrong this time
and your last words echo
over and over and over
"don't call back"
you're a ghost now
and i still see you
walking the halls at night
doing the things we used to
laughing the way we used to
loving me like you used to
it's haunting
and i feel chills from nowhere
like your hands are still on me
still moving me
still holding me
like i know you never will again
and i haven't slept in weeks
and the middle of my bed
is relearning how to hold just me
because i can't stand sleeping on my side
while yours remains vacant
and i can't stand to look in mirrors
because my eyes are the same
vacant
and empty
and your clothes still hug my frame
like i wish you would
they don't keep me warm like you did
and you didn't leave reasons
and you didn't apologize
and i was left to wonder where i went wrong
but you got lucky
you don't see ghosts at night
or hear phantom laughter
or feel chills in the dark
because you weren't left to wonder
you just left
you think they get it,
and they try to get it,
and all the pieces you allowed
to slice into your palms
for so long
shatter to the ground,
and they help you
sweep them out into the backyard.
but they begin to forget,
they forget to wipe their shoes off
at the backdoor
and they trail your pieces
back into the kitchen.
they continue to forget,
they forget that those were
once pieces of you
and not eggshells
that they must tiptoe on,
pieces that still shatter
under minimal pressure.
and then they forget altogether,
they forget the way
your body curved in on itself
and the way sobs wracked
up your spine and across your ribs,
like a fervent storm
slamming into the base of
a teetering tree.
they forget the way
you were unresponsive
for forty five minutes,
staring blankly out farther than
your weakened eyesight
could perceive.
they forget the way
you eye steak knifes
like exit ramps off of
long highways
and the way
your gnarled nails
press crescents
into your palms
until stars flash across your vision.
they forget these things,
and the soles of their shoes
splinter those blood soaked
pieces like fractured glass,
and they dig deeper
into your palms this time
when you have to pick them up alone.

Broken the diagnosis,
Change the cure,
Perhaps with prosthesis,
The subject may be pure,

Twist here,
Turn there,
Do not fear,
On to tear,

One looks on,
What ailment scars,
What is this spawn,
Behind phantom bars,

They tried to fix,
Tried to hear the clicks,
They tried to mend,
To make it bend,

A shriek cries out,
It is done,
To clear all doubt,
All saved but the one,

Though, what is not spoken,
It was never broken.

Red seas cross a bleak horizon,
They move yet they are still,
Robed and clad in red they were,
The men of the missing land,

They wander without reason,
Sees the man on the hill,
He ponders, with them to confer,
He asks what he is to think,

They speak with silence saying;
Help me,
Heal me,
Lead me,

What else can a man do he says,
That man atop the hill,

They speak with silence saying;
Test me,
Teach me,
Correct me,

If you wish he says,
That man atop the hill,

The seas stand still,
What could not be done, the miracle,
By the man atop the hill,

They speak with silence saying;
Move us,
Push us,
Change us,

What else can a man do he says,
That man atop the hill,

They speak with silence saying;
Watch us,
Control us,
Rule us,

If you wish he says,
That man atop the hill,

The seas were one,
Each and every the same,
Held in a current of order,

They whisper saying;
Release us,
Free us,
Leave us,

He cannot hear the whisper below,
That man atop the hill,

They scream saying;
What of this,
What of us,
Why us,

He thought to himself,
That man atop the hill,

He looked down upon the seas,
Robed and clad in gray they were,
Then he called softly from above,

You spoke with silence saying;
Help me,
Heal me,
Lead me,

What else could I do he said,
That man atop the hill,

You spoke with silence saying;
Test me,
Teach me,
Correct me.
