In an alternate universe,
the light would be more friend than foe.
I need not entrench myself
in the sturdiest foxhole...
The deepest burrow.

In an alternate universe,
shadows would not goad me
into submitting to leverage.
Spotlight would be on,
and I would take centrestage.

In an alternate universe,
the world would perceive
with magnanimous eyes.
With no malicious intent,
with no obscure motives,
all twisted and bent.

In an alternate universe,*
I would readily reveal myself...
As an entity and not a martyr.
In my heart, there'll be no worry.
Because there'll be no fangs
amidst the jubilee.
Only smiles that would draw out
the best in each other.

Knowing
There is no other place
One
Would rather
be.
Sometimes
Life keeps moving when you're trying so hard to hold still.
Roll with the punches, make changes, do something to better yourself
Or *simply fade away.

There's more out there,
There's undiscovered emotions and ideas that could broaden your horizons wider than the most beautiful sunset that you may never even see because you were too set in your ways to go outside your comfortable little box and really SEE the world.

*The choice is yours.
Walking through the garden
Feel the moss between my toes
Butterflies wings fluttering
Landing on a rose

Hosta leaves holding water
Enough for a snail to drink
The feeling here so tranquil
It gives me time to think

Sitting under the cherry tree
Soaking up the sun
Two dragonflies dancing
Looks like they're having fun

As I continue down the path
I came across a tree
Initials carved in the bark
Made by you and me

It's here where we had our first kiss
Its here where we fell in love
Sometimes I come here to this spot
To pray to God above

Thankful for this day
And all the promise it brings
Enjoying this precious moment
While the songbird sings

As this special time wains
And I rejoin my life
I'll carry this moment with me
As long as your my wife

A tv on mute
     while anger
forms over
another dispute,
          one more
thing to discuss,
     another coat
to wear despite
         the red hot
  sun & what's
the cost,
somewhere
       remote a
skeleton is
pining for a
hide
while we draw
borders along
arbitrary lines
& a world is
  carved up into
yours & mine,
a territory of
land, sea,
portion of sky,
an enemy
lurking as
         wolves
outside,
I go to look
           but no,
soon though.
When you were old enough
You answered the call to serve
Many friends among you
Didn't have the nerve

Off to basic training
Learn to fight a war
Time to become a man
Off to a foreign shore

Battles you will face
Put your life on the line
Dying for your country
To you that would be fine

For our freedom
You paid with your life
Leaving your parents
Kids and a wife

Thank you for your sacrifice
A cost we cannot repay
Allow us to honor you
On this Memorial Day

Our Country
Forever in your debt
Promises that...
We will never forget
