a time when roads

darkens to gray...and the clouds
hide from us, and the sun sets, and
we need arrows and rays to guide  us

storm siren
Sometimes you open your eyes
And see nothing.
Sometimes you close your eyes
And it's all right there.

Sometimes my tarot cards all fold,
And my crystal ball fogs over.
Sometimes the runes don't read,
And the lines on your palms are just scars.

Sometimes the pendulum won't swing,
And the birds in the bottletree
Won't sing.

But the sky is violent red,
So maybe the sunlight
Will come again.

So lay your crystals
By the windowsill,
And light your candles
In your circle.

Wish and pray and wish and pray
But in the end
Fate is what you make it,
And no amount of darkness
Can black out my colors.

I listened to the iron rooster
spinning in the wind wondering
who would climb the roof
and take him in, or would he roost
with strangers in the house

It was so cold
the chicken water froze over

The women made coffee
and the men went out to the shed
to look over the tools

No one would sit in her black chair
because it was a bear
that might wake up anytime

She died in the middle of the night

The doctor said her heart blew out
like a jar of preserves

Before dawn I laid my head
on the hard couch by the cast iron
stove and heard her coming down
the stairs with her cane and her teeth
in a glass on the way to the outhouse
saying *Who took my flashlight?

Here I am

by the sea

Shanghaied

from the mountains

a long ways

from loving

let the record read

I'm ****** if I don't

and ****** if I do

and let the moon

hide in my boot.
And ****** if I know. :)

When I go out at night
trying to sweep up the stars
my woman grows weary
of the cold weather in me
she thinks I am with someone
else, but it is midnight
and I am alone with the moon
that woman in a red dress
standing on the beach
but you see, it is an empty
plate with no supper, or
maybe a piece of stationery
without a lover's phone number.

Raven
You
dancing in my head
we are masters at living beautifully
creating unity

Fill my lungs up with your love
Cheesy as it is, I love the way your smile pulls and replaces the stars
out of the sky and stabs me in my blue eyes
Yeah love is a ****** mess

You’re the wolf, I the Raven
We play, we chase, and we steal each other’s hearts—
Like shuffling cards, like go fishing for my heart
In a sea of too many geeks, too many freaks, fakes
Baking up cupcakes to lure you in
Fishing you in with the bait

Darling, I may sew my mouth up shut
But I see what should never be hidden
Hear more than I’d like
And I smell the magic tucked under your tongue

I imagine
You and I
Dangling our feet over the cliff of a roaring waterfall
Our thoughts carried off

You won’t always get me, I won’t always get you
But as humans do, we tie ourselves up in silly string
Pulling strings
Pulling our bodies closer

Loving you isn’t hard
But untying what we have is
You're right, I'm left—to be
twisted up like headphones knotting in a pocket
I’ll be wrapped in your arms until the greedy pull us apart

Raven
When our glasses clinked by the fire and we smoked ***** cigarettes
like the 1950's
we were real classy
Tapping the ashes
we burnt our problems
Slapping laughter into each other
we forgot about how the mornings would feel
how are hearts felt
I knew we were headed nowhere
stuck in the bottle
so we threw our fine wine into the fire
and walked away.

sunprincess
Once a beautiful princess with a Zest for life
and a love for tasty Zingers
morphed
into a Zebra butterfly

Whenever she was enjoying her tasty Zingers
She was always on cloud nine
and so blissfully happy and alive

So one sweet summer's day
she was Zipping along on a Zephyr's breeze
Pleasantly enjoying life with a smile

When suddenly she came upon a garden,
an enchanting garden of Zinnias
Beauties, blooming colours of Zeal

And then suddenly he flew Zoom, Zoom
Zing, Zing faster than a Zenith light
A dragonfly, "ahh a god" she thought

And she worshipped him, he was her god
he was the Zeus of her garden
He could go from Zero to sixty in a Zecond

She was so ecstatically happy in her garden
she had honestly believed she had expired
and went to her very own sweet Heaven

When actually she was only dreamin'
sometimes  she falls asleep unexpectedly

We were different, like oil and water.
We were different, like white and black.
We were different.

We were same, like trees and grass.
We were same, like green in meadows.
We were same.

We were, you out there and me right here.
We were, in this world, meant to be together.
We were.

One of my favorite of free verse poems which I have written over the years, it discusses a past love endeavor of mine.

Mad
Calling me crazy,
over the years;
trying to fix
which has already
been broken.
Crushed down
to million
little pieces.
Now you want more!
Shamelessly
demanding
to get back
which you never
bestowed upon
me.
I
think
I must be
mad and irrational
to think so but
I know I'm mad at you.
