trapped within the
notes
of my favorite songs,
your memory lingers -
waiting patiently to be
released,
and to be relived..
if only for a
moment.

Tree Hearted

A feeling can be fleeting,
but what about the source of a thing?
From just one seed,
roots can grow deep.
Though the leaves of a tree may change,
and some branches might break or fall off,
there is one part that always remains,
grows stronger;
the heart.
Yea, I know. Yet another tree metaphor, but I like trees, *******!

Awake in nothing
Hands shaking
Eyes darting
Heavy breathing
Not your own
Blind darkness
The ringing
In your ears
The scratching
The knocks
The voices
Driving you
To insanity
You run
They laugh

What to do?

*You awake
In your room
To look over
To see that they caught you.
Those dreams that don't end when you awake

All these knives in my back
         They don't even hurt anymore
   I mean, I'm sore
                 And it's intense
But it doesn't make any sense
I must be at war
         With myself
Tearing apart the insides of my brain
Have I gone insane?
           Why do I
Keep letting these things
              Happen to me?
Is there a sign taped to my back
  Saying "Torture ME"?
            "Take Advantage Of ME"?
        "Love Me And Leave ME"?
    What's wrong with me?
            All this backstabbing
        Take this pen
And drag the ink into my spine
Use the blood drops as a tattoo design
The scars from all the knives
Will just make it look more divine
Maybe some Angel wings
           With a sash torn apart
      and "Nobody Loves ME"
Written across the heart
Might as well throw it all away
Throw it all out the door
    I'm sore
But all these knives in my back
     Don't even hurt anymore
The golden streets in my dreams
Show me the path to redemption
Silences the screams
Hides the shame
And rips everything that I've ever known
At the broken heart seams
Ropes and strings, pulled and tied
Nooses and knots, the reason you lied
More likely than not
The causes of why I've cried
Giving in and giving out promises
That only last until I died
Yesterday
And there was no sighs
No questions of why
The path to the ghost of my soul
Disappeared with the blood
That endlessly flowed
But I didn't know
I couldn't see
The transparency of my misery
There for everyone else to see
Everyone could have guessed
I'm sure they all knew
Life flew past my pain
Skipping over the doubts and regrets
Of all the things I didn't do
It's amazing how death can finally
Get you through
And life is something
You never really knew

Intervention

I threw an intervention for my self,
and all my friends were there.
We got loaded on alcohol,
then drank a ton of beer.
When the last one was on his way out,
he hugged me at the door.
Lots of people say they care,
but these ones -
they care more.

Phil Lindsey
She smiled, looked up at him, and quickly kissed his cheek.
Then turned and walked away from the turmoil of the week,
Her crystal blue eyes moistened as she neared the airline gate,
And an inner pain engulfed her as she struggled with her fate.

He stood still, surprised, and wondered what she meant to say,
Her kiss was sweet but melted like the springtime snow in May.
Was it beginning? Was it ending? What future lies ahead?
He said 'Goodbye' and turned away.  Words better left unsaid.

Both home to their own islands, alone with thoughts and doubt.
Nobody they can talk to - No way to work it out.
What will she say? What will he think? My God, what have we done?
And maybe out of Darkness a single ray of sun.

Her resolve much stronger than his lust, her drive to do what's right,
Prevailed and gave her judgement (though she didn't sleep that night.)
And life goes on, and snowfalls come - Young children play on sleds,
And both can dream what might have been. Dreams better left unsaid.
