not mine, it is hers
and she is gone now.

She took me in
I took care of her and she taught
me how to love unconditionally.

Now in her chair I sit sad and uncomfortable.
Around me surrounds a heavy air.
A memory of our last saying,
I love you.

I made a promise to her, on her dying day,
to take care of RJ and Wally ,
Miss kitty, Mandy, Trouble, Blinky, Inky, Nod,
and two more grey kittys.

I will try, Marge. With all my heart.

I know they miss you.

But, not half as much as I do.

Why can't I just love you?
it would make my life easier.
She called me a beautiful, talented              a r t i s t.
but I shook my head and
called her a
           m a s t e r p i e c e .
I think I could fall in love again.

I was about ready to ask you out
I'm tired of watching you walk away
You always keep your eyes to yourself
I wondered if it was me or just your way

I finally asked one of your friends
And he let me in on the deal
He said you have a boyfriend
A girl like you is hard to steal

That’s alright baby
I can wait
You’re worth all my time alone
I'll wait until you make him your ex
But I’m telling you now
I got next

Every girl has a guy hanging around
They like to keep their options open
You just have to show her you’re for real
Even if your heart is next to be broken

That’s alright baby
I can wait
You’re worth all my time alone
I'll wait until you make him your ex
But I’m telling you now
I got next

i want to move into the hollow of your heart,
pack all i own into my battered backpack
& lay it out to rest on your bedroom shelves,
run run run down
the ice-slick streets in winter until i finally reach you,
until i am home/to be alone/with you

there are years that ache like bruises on my thighs
& years that are soft like rabbit ears, like flannel pajamas
like the way it feels to have found you.
at last, at last:
the morning birds murmur their musings
as we sip cocoa so sweet & so hot it scalds my throat
but not, but not,
but not nearly as much
as your mouth brands my lips yours.

someday, someday,
someday, pretty baby,
time will pass in kisses,
the coffeepot hisses,
you will find yourself waking
in a cathedral of our warmth
new-day light spilling over our bodies,
the ocean-state sheets –
you will know.
you will know – i will tell you now,
but someday you will know -
you are going to be safe,
finally safe, forever.

i will love you.  i will love you.  i will love you.

I'm thankful for the rain,
For it covers my tears.

I'm thankful that it's cold,
For it excuses my shaking.
Tonight. This was me.
