as fleeting as a coelacanth
and made of tender amaranth,
in jaded hues of pale rosé,
the day's frail beauty soon decays.

to capture the grace of flaming dusk,
one has to peel dawn's unyielding husk.
a barely visible wonderland,
never to stay but never to end.

There's an east facing room,
in a west facing house.
Its curtains don’t open
till the middle of the day.
By then the sun has gone,
taken its rays high above
where they can’t reach the east facing room
and only get further and further away
with each hour of the day.

But at sunset,
when the west faces of buildings
soak up their long awaited sunlight,
the sinking sun is reflected
off a neighboring window,
shining a brilliant orange spotlight
into the east facing room
in the west facing house.

all that hope promised
first light of a new day

I was always a sunset kind've guy
preferring to know it's all over
watching my anger and disappointment
drain from the sky

we're no longer together

days passed
and we never saw eye to eye

The sky runs a dim orange,
reflecting the distant sun's dying light,
telling me that the day's final act
is on its final leg.

(the other was broken
after a saying
was taken literally)

A purple draws in,
as does the red velvet curtains.
The theater has emptied
except for those
who had tickets
to the night show as well.
