Shades of green, brown, yellow, orange
The death fall brings is beautiful withering
But winter's soft white blankets
Replace that beauty with monotone
And make the air too cold for moving
It freezes the soul
To be trapped inside walls
And only see only white under an infinite grey sky
I struggle to feel or want anything
But to exist for the purpose of staying warm
Until spring's promise is followed through
And the earth's plants thirsting for water and starving for sun
Emerge from melted snow to usher in warmth and color again.

The trees have a lovely moving charm
Too often they did not expect any harm
Then the sky sent down a desire that shivers
From it's rhythmic and echoec rivers
In gentle drops heading to the west
I thought life found the spring or rest
On its secret side by forbidden snows
Their attack came with the wind blows
In such holy raids through the shadows
While the whole earth just paid it's vows
As a lamp lowered to the green myrtles
Through the trees and the winds whistles
Oh my deceived desires!, fainted dreams
All gone in oblivion along with sun beams
With bright white dunes by sides in seams
Then earth repudiate immortal tyrants
Even the seasons travel like migrants
They made to inspire love in the poet
On each written verse in every sonnet
Without responding to any torments
To live in a sublime art full of contents

he walked away
with the sting
of youth
burning
a halo

noted
by those
who know
that the passage
of the years as time
makes its relentless march
is simply because we got up
and retired to bed as he did
every day of every year

and one day daffodils
were covered by falling
leaves with mulled wine
in mourning as frost waits
knowing it will soon succeed
in bringing lasting shadows to
all living breathing creatures
including the man who
saunters on by

Summer
You were always there to watch me Fall
The leaves of my shame ran down your face
Like loose mystery juice

I want everything to rise up
Like an army of Love
Inter-Blast the family chain of command
I want Father / Son to explode
in us
in our olden mouths
in soul's transit

Winter is a friend i met in The Room
She loans me her Rocky Road
I scream at the tops of her lungs

Spring forth in ME, oh translucent dragon of thyme!
Investigate to find the exits

the trees are changing
and
so am I
so are we
shifting in preparation
for the blanket of a new season
part of my series “Recess Poetry,” written during my first year of teaching in the fall of 2020, outside, during our 20 minutes of recess time.
Do the seasons change
so that I don't have to?
People come and go,
sometimes for a reason
sometimes just for a season,
I'm here till I can be.
