Be fearless.
Your voice was not made to be silenced,
And neither was your thought.
Give it tongue, give it volume, give it song.
Give it your lips and your teeth.
This is what you are to the world.
This is your truth, and your way.
There is nothing more precious than this.
Bite hard, never let go.
Published a few years ago as part of poetry collection for my university Womyns Centre. Thought it became relevant again.

They can't heal
When our shame
Lines these roads

They can't heal
When our guides
Aid, abet
And confuse

They can't heal
With our past.
Its power,
We still feel

They can't heal
When we tame
This shared pain.

The trees keep growing
The flowers keep blossoming
Shouldn't we still grow?
With everything happening in the world I find it strange that people always say thats how it's always been or that is how Ive always done it. Life is continually growing and changing into a better you. Don't stunt your growth

Melanin
Silky, smooth
Awakened, becoming, evolving
Beautiful and gentle

Meticulously crafted
Every shade unique
Loved by all who we encounter
Amazingly resilient
Never backing down
Indescribable and unique
New horizons awaiting

There's a lot of good people in this world
People who would like to see a better world
Unfortunately it's out of our control
That is if, your ideology is to
"Stay the status quo"
Did you just get comfortable?
Close your eyes and play your role
I have everything I need
Yet my world is not complete
My connection to the world
Will never disconnect
I possess true love
Which parallels deep regret
That's why I'm an activist

Perhaps
If I could dehumanize black people
Close my eyes to our war criminal President's
So what...
Congress bailed out Wall Street
And the top corporations and left the people to struggle

Cornered by the guys in blue and black
Trapped in a situation and can't go back
In a sapping fight for our carte blanche
An avalanche of grieve, we received first hand

Although stained, this blue flag would still stand
A burning ache for the promise land
For color won't tell the lives we should live
We will strive and thrive, for the life we're deprived

Cocoa, caramel, chocolate or coffee
Cinnamon, cedar, copper or toffee
Tell me what’s your shade queen?
So beautiful and brown!

Hickory, cedar, pecan or gingerbread
With your warm silky undertones.
Are they yellowish or red?

Peanut, brunette, umber or brown
Whichever shade, you wear it well,
Embrace your melanin crown!

Bronze, copper, mahogany or wheat
Sienna or sepia it’s such a mystery!

Whatever shade you are, you should know you wear it well!
Skin so deep, your shades so dope, your melanin’s smooth as hell!
