Don't tell me I'm pretty
Tell me that I'm passionate
That I have drive
Tell me that I make you laugh
That I know how to make your day better
Don't tell me I seem nice
Tell me that I'm kind and compassionate
Tell me that I'm not afraid to dream and to dream big
Don't tell me I'm perfect
Tell me the you love me despite my flaws
That you want to spend the rest of your life with me
Don't tell me I'm beautiful
Tell me that you'll be faithful and forever true

Stop, dear girl
Savor this moment
The world spins fast enough
Don't forget the present
Before it's stolen

she hesitates
in sight of the world’s imperfection
but then she remembers
every man she has ever loved
was flawed beyond words
but all she could ever see
was their beauty

It's talking to me
Knocking on my window pane
Pitter patter
Louder and louder
I open up my window
Letting the screen divide us
She's mad I tell you
With her heavy sighs and opened eyes
She's got a crock her voice
Like the crack of a ball against a bat
She's showing symbolic signs
Simply showing me symptoms of depression and oppression
Full of miss connections and rejections
She's rumbling grounds and shaking leaves off of trees
As soon as kablam
Those trees split in threes
Birds forget where to be
But she doesn't care
Cause she's talking to me
I can tell she's got dead weight on her shoulders
Fully forgetting what she told us
You can see it in her grey puffy eyes the anger and frustration
As tears fall down and leave stains on the pavement
Her heavy sighs are leaving street signs asking why
With the branching on trees fighting back for mercy
All the cars screaming as the swerve against her
Fighting cause they wish they were her
“And the flag was still there”
I don't understand why she's so upset
I just know she's going neck to neck
With all of her haters
Inventions designed to enslave her
Yet I decide to open my window
That just lets her know
She's got someone to vent to
Tell the truth to
She whispers when I sleep
And I listen while she weeps
It's sad she only comes out to vent
Maybe she's heaven sent
God sending a reminder of the promise he meant
Rainbows come out when she's done with her confession
To remind me of her lessons

The Other Way

Strange place, strange ways, each stay away!
Then why are there two roads to take?

The maps and paths, and followed tracks.
And Google, Waze, we trust their facts.
Turn left, turn right we let it steer.
To miss a turn, we start to fear.

Across to tolls, collect control.
Like little soldiers, do as told.
Planned flights and crowds, comfort in traps.
Are we confined in our skin wraps?

Some lost, pretend to just be found.
Some found, act lost, pretty profound.
To take that step, the unprotected.
To turn towards, the unexpected.
A wasteful plan, we must forget it.
Insane repeat, and do we test it?

Misdirection, to find us love.
Misdirection, to find us trends.
Misdirection, finds ideas.
Misdirection, to find us friends.
Misdirection to free in stress.
Misdirection leaves no regrets.

Let one misdirection find you.
Let one misdirection guide you.
Let one misdirection define
And be the reason, you are you.

How quickly she forgot
How poorly I expressed
And either way
We are run away
With the feeling of want which may not keep
And will not if you ask the likes of me
It's true...and this is why time matters to me.
