Pen me a thousand verses
of hatred, of love, of peace;
pen me a thousand verses,
o'er those clouds of sorrows.

Pen me a thousand verses
to sail the ocean of emptiness,
accept failures of bygone days,
for there is always tomorrow.

Cry the most beautiful pain,
pen a thousand verses again;
shadow of fears will then end,
moon will illumine the night.

Pen verses for a heart to mend,
profound words are explained,
'nother chapter of life will begin;
pen verses of the journey's fight.

the city and it's music
every changing
the city and it's music
daily rearranging

you can hear the distant thunder
kept in time by city drums
a beat of urban tires
that makes the city roadways strum
the wind blows through the subway
you can hear the wires hum
it's the city making music
shut your eyes and listen some

the band has no conductor
there are horns and there are strings
there's a bass back from the buses
listen to the joy it brings
it's a concert in the city
by the city and it rings
the bells from downtown churches
and the piegeons flapping wings

you've an orchestra around now
listen close, it never stops
from the cars racing through downtown
to the whistle blowing cops
it's a different kind of music
it's got a rhythm that just pops
it's a gritty harder sound
that echos to the building tops

cars, trucks, people walking
all are part of this great band
and the best part of this music
is it's spread across the land
each song you hear is different
nothing ever comes out planned
each city has a cadence
listen close, the show's at hand....

You finish off my sentences
You help complete my thoughts
Although we are quite different
"I'm an x,  and you're a nought"
My life is full because of you
And the one thing that we've got
Is that we are quite different
You play "x"s, I play "noughts"
Together we're a power house
A team that knows it's way
But, separate, we're unorganized
That can't get through the day
We make each other better when
One is cold and one is hot
It's because we are quite different
You play "x"s, I play "noughts"
If the game should ever change
And we went a different way
I don't know how I'd make it
I'd not know just what to play
I wake up every morning knowing
You're there to be in all my thoughts
It's because we are so different
You play "x"s, I play noughts.

A visit to the land cannot
leaves a mark on all you do
people never try too hard
they will leave things up to you

Cannotians are lazy
They aspire to the middle
They reach this level of success
And herein lies the riddle

Cannotians move onto won't
After years of doing naught
But wontians don't choose to leave
And move back to cannot

A person who is lazy
Gets special treatment in cannot
He is praised for doing nothing
And for those things he's not got

A cannotian moved to I will try
but his papers were all wrong
He forgot to get his visa
So he didn't stay there long

Cannot is not imagined
You can find it if you try
But please don't ever go there
And I'll give  the reason why

Cannotians are hopeless
They do not have get up and go
So please regard this message
as something all people should know

If you go there take a sweater
In cannot there is no heat
Cannotians won't turn it on
For doing something is defeat

Please move on up to cando
maybe go from there to might
It's a short journey from Iwill
And life there is outa sight !!!

The 787 Dreamliners
tickets sold but not going
Would you really get aboard
a plane whose name is "Boing"?

Because of counterfeit parts
There are no Dreamliner flights
There is also a new rumour
That the crew is scared of heights

There are only a few airports
Where the Dreamliner resides
The rest have too short runways
Though they all are extra wide

I am sure that in the future
They will resolve the growing pains
And that the Boeing 787
Will fly high above the "planes"

Power went down twice today
Once was just a flicker
In fact in terms of laughter
I would call that one a snicker

The second time we lost it all
The house went cold and dark
So, I got the dogs both on a leash
And I took them to the park

Five hours passed before they came
And said "The power's back"
It was just then I started to
Have an I.T heart attack

I'm not one for computers
The phone, or tablet too
They had gone down with the internet
And I knew not what to do

Each electronic item
That resides inside this place
Defaults to needing passwords
And well, me...I'm so off base

I couldn't watch the tv
The computer screen just stared
It kept asking for a password
and I admit, I was a bit scared

I didn't phone my spouse to tell him
That I didn't have a clue
I'd wait for my young daughter
She'd know just what to do

In our house things are different
We never phone up a help line
Our kids reset the passwords
And our kids are eight and nine

They'll fix what I can't restart
They'll get me back on the tv
And the best things with this I.T team
Is that all their help is free.

I don't see things that others see
When they look in the sky
I don't see sheep or ***** cats
As the clouds go rolling by

My mind just doesn't work that way
I see just what I see
They see sheep and ***** cats
They don't look that way to me

I wonder when they look at sheep
Do they see a flock of clouds?
or when they hear a ***** cat
is the meow not quite as loud?

They see faces in the bark of trees
And see people in their toast
My mind doesn't work that way
And I think I'm like the most

I don't see things that are not there
I see just what I see
My mind just doesn't work that way
My mind is not that free

They see spirits in old photographs
They see things that are not there
I look and try to figure out
What they see that isn't there

I see stars that are no longer there
But, that's a trick of time and space
These people look at lumps of rock
And they see Jesus' face

My mind is not wired the same
As these who see what I do not
I just hope I never catch what
It is that they have got!!

Why do people die?
Why do I get cold?
What makes air air?
Why do we get old?
My child asks these questions
And I don't want to look dumb
So, being a good father
I say..."Go and ask your mom"

How many is infinity?
How can birds fly?
Where do babies come from?
Why do people lie?
Sometimes I can tell them things
That I know they might believe
I don't do it all the time though
I just do it so they'll leave

Questions from the children
Make me seem quite dumb
I always tell them half truths
Then I send them to their mom
She tells them she's busy
And they come back to see me
I guess we'll learn together
I hope they can teach me

Why are clouds so puffy?
Why is water wet?
What's a kit and caboodle?
How do you place a bet?
I love it when they ask me
It shows they want to know
Exactly why things happen
And what makes most things go

What is the moon made of?
Is it really cheese?
I get questions like this daily
Why do people sneeze?
There's one that I can't answer
My daughter wants to know
When I make my morning toast
Where does my bread slice go?

Questions from the children
Make me seem quite dumb
I always tell them half truths
Then I send them to their mom
She tells them she's busy
And they come back to see me
I guess we'll learn together
I hope they can teach me

Choosing sides
Captains pick
The last one
Never picked
Choice was made
And you were left
Last one
With a stick

Friends back out
Your phone rings
You know, oh yes you know
All the others
backed out
you're the last pick
would you go?

pick me first
or second, third
it all goes by
so fast
we're taught
from the beginning
you don't want to
be picked last

But, I....yes....I
am proud of
being picked
Not first
not even third
My wife chose me
last you see
got you...
yes, you heard

I was picked
last by her
And first
it's up to you
you can look
at love's choice
both ways
first or last
not number two....

I don't know
Who saw who first
It don't matter
much to me

I don't know
What song was playing
When I first laid eyes on you
But, I just knew I had to know you
Before the night was through

I remember very closely
What you wore
When we first met
The blouse, the jeans
The perfume
That's one thing I won't forget

Little things escape me
Details...not for me
I look at the big picture
And that's just what I see

Your favorite drink....don't ask me
Your favorite movie...not a chance
The details all escape me
They just leave me in a trance

I remember very closely
What you wore
When we first met
The blouse, the jeans
The perfume
That's one thing I won't forget

I know nothing of the small stuff
The details are out of mind
To me, they're not important
That's why I leave them all behind

I have loved you in the coldest of snowstorms that winter has to offer,
Felt your warmth through the curve of your lips,
The music of soft fingertips. My body is your piano,
We write a different genre of music when we love.
There are warm rays of sunshine cast over our flesh
And the snow glistens with the light you shine in.
I’ve never felt safer, wrapped in the protection of your arms
During the loudest thunderstorm in the middle of spring;
When the skies are dark and grey, lightning shooting like swords
Against earth’s ceiling.
I’ve held your naked body against my own,
Drawing over the cliffs of your hip bones, the valley of your
Belly button and the mountain range of ribs,
The cage that protects your heart from the heat of the
Summer temperatures that I hold within me, your warm
Anatomy heating my body like the core of earth:
From the inside out.
I’ve ran my fingers through the sweet sweat resting over
Your back, like droplets of dew on a leaf in the early morning
Humidity of summer after a night of making love.
We watch the leaves change color ad stroll softly
To the ground in autumn.
The temperatures begin to drop and the branches are naked
And bare, like my skin in summer while we sleep.

I’ve loved you like the snow that grips the bark.
I am cold, but winter has always been your favorite.

From day one he was trouble
His parents knew on sight
Their bundle of pure joy and bliss
Was somehow, just not right

It wasn't in his nature
To be part of a gang
He like to be off by himself
He liked things that went bang

He was troubled in his school years
Never getting real good marks
He didn't get along with other
He was burning caps and making sparks

But when this boy found fire
Well, then....his world became real small
Never mind the big explosions
He would go and burn them all

Small fires set in dumpsters
Behind the shops, by where he ran
He'd set fire to the garbages
While he trapped a cat inside the can

He progressed on up to buildings
Made that jump, in one big way
He torched a crack house, all abandoned
Buy using gas and old, dry hay

But, the thrill was not a keeper
It wore off as fast as it arrived
He had to extend the feeling
That made his body feel alive

He knew to see his fires
He would have to volunteer
First he would go set them
Then, help put them out...I fear

It was a stroke of pyro genius
He'd set them and he'd put them out
He'd learn what gave them trouble
And he'd give them more without a doubt

He never killed another
Never burnt a persons home
He always set his fires
Where buildings always stood alone

They caught him late September
He'd burned a building late one night
It was supposed to be abandoned
But, was full of squatters, out of sight

The picture, it was famous
A hippie shaking someone's hand
It was on the front page of the paper
And it was shown through out the land

A fingerprint was lifted
A switch, that burned, not like it should
And from there, it was no problem
To lock this boy away for good

He was sent away to prison
He was gonna die there, bet on that
And on his first day in that prison
He saw an old man, who just sat

Sitting in the corner
by himself, no one around
Sat a man, all old and wrinkled
Lips were moving, but no sound

Came forth from this man's mouth,
his lips all cracked and dry,
You could stand right there and listen
And hear nothing if you tried...
For Eileen, who asked about why the second man was in prison. Here's his story Eileen...hope you enjoy it.

I tried to write an epic
Like those who've come before
It had to grab the reader
It had to leave them wanting more

How to start an epic
I've a line but it's not mine
I  could use it, as have others
I think most will think it's fine

But, it's been used so very often
By writers  we all know
Four words that grab the reader
Four words that make us go

We see these words and wonder
Where will our writer lead
Will we go to foreign countries?
Will we see someone in need?

I'm five verses in now,
I've not even started yet
I think I'll use the four words
They're the best I'm gonna get

So here is my beginning
In the sixth verse, and last line
I guess it's here where I'm beginning....
Once upon a time...
