I wasn't there with my body
when you were happy,
or walking in an evening rain,
I wasn't there with my eyes
to see the tears you shed
I wasn't there to feel your skin,
to see your eyes bloom at night.
I wasn't.

I wasn't there with the body
that would keep your feelings warm,
I wasn't with the arms
that would make your pain go.

I thought i was there in your soul,
a shade of sea,
a morning in the spring,
my words, I thought,
they'd make you feel
the same sunrise that's in my smile
whenever your voice speaks to me.

I hoped I was at least a dream,
a thought of yours at night,
a traveller in your mind,
a phrase,
a nonsense,
I hoped
I was one of your cigars,
your cup of tea,
your rest.

I thought
I hoped
In silence now I know
I wasn't with you
at all.

you don't have to be pretty
or be beautiful physically
or be great at
anything you love....

as long as you're there
for me to see
and lean on
once every often

and by knowing that you
care and hold me close
to your heart
once every often
i know i can
live life
well
enough.

On days like this
cool, with little winds
desert birds forage for sticks
they build nests perched in cactus
some build green in palo verde trees
always I think of baby birds in spring
hatchlings, the fledglings that fly
I travel far beyond the noise of towns
watch the movement of cooling clouds
the roundness of rain upon the ground
the grey banked scurrilous skies
of hurried birds, their silhouettes before a storm
daisies that close, cold amid the stones
beneath where snakes and lizards go
slither and crawl in this landscape of saguaros
and I, ever tethered can only dream to fly.
I have just moved and will be without internet for 4 or 5 days, except for on my phone, therefore I am unable  to respond to each and everyone of you, beautiful poets - but know that I am ever grateful for this HP sanctuary and for poets everywhere.

thank you
XO, Cyd

The green barn stands alert,
in it’s structure it resounds,
singing hymns of it’s majesty.

To an outsider, it’s prominent,
plentiful with straw and freshness,
no one can see the pain it haunts.

The lonely aura of it’s scented past,
on the grounds where she departed,
strangled herself as the breath faded.

The storage where loneliness visited,
drowning every emotion she had,
pushing her to sink deeper in the abyss .
For a poetry assignment (Prompt: Barn)
have a seat and see these majestic creatures
reduced to only a beastly feature
they follow the lead of the keepers
freedom will never be their teacher

I looked out over the lake today
the wind whipping the water into a froth
of whitecaps and waves that I thought
only an ocean could own--
and suddenly it dawned on me...
As long as I have this beautiful lake,
the land and trees and the sky above--
I'll never really be alone.#
