.
The early sun warms my veins,
Dawn chorus birds are chattering again
A heady smell of dew and flowers
sets the scene for the morning hours.

The mid-day sun warms my face,
dancing butterflies pass playing chase.
The intoxicating scent of life in bloom
carries the promise of the afternoon.

The evening sun warms my world,
Oracles smile at the cool Spring Girl.
Perfumes waft from way out of sight
holding the future through the night.

We were all connected
In a very real sense
The universe packed
So infinitely dense

Then instantly exploding
Bursting at the seams
Singularity in harmony
Blown to smithereens
Poem 1 in the Beautiful Words series.

Each poem in this series is prompted by a word from a list I recently discovered of "the 70 most beautiful words in the English language," according to an international survey by the British Council.

i'm a mess and i'm still untangling the strings
breaking down walls
breathing
being
building.
i've shed layers of dead skin,
repaired the broken
but never healing all at once...
never coming together the way i should
never falling apart when i'm ready to
never breaking at the right angles
that make it clean enough
to pick up after myself.

"everything is set in stone," they lie

bold-faced they be
as they look you in the eye

in the presence of evil,
one must not cower

for even through
cracks of cement
rises a flower

Crashing

Icarus flew before he fell
Tasted salty air and intoxicating freedom
He was able to relish in Helios' Ray's and soar through Isis' rainbow sprays
The gods watched with innocent chuckles and fond expressions
But fate cackled as wax fell like the fat tears of Hera as Icarus' wings burned
They expected him to scream
To call out to his father leagues ahead
Instead he laughed with mirth unrivaled
A ball of shining flames and glorious downfall
There was a special beauty is crashing when you should be soaring
Falling like a star to be wished upon
He let the flames consume him and bemoaned when he hit the sea
The best part of the flight the fall

I stare through a plane of distortion
as a calm anxiety engulfs me,
numbing every sensation
until everything else is a blank nothing.

It hurts to know that I once shone,
emitting a harsh radiance, like the sun.
they used to avert their fragile corneas
from my invasive rays but now...

I am a blank nothing.

trace your faint touch down my rib cage,
whispered nails hush my chest,
let's synch our heart beats,
exhale burgundy breath,
that cheap red wine
and our ultra violet teeth.

unlace your lucid lust,
cocoons under silk sheets,
thread counts are high,
your body next to me.

your head rests gently,
my arm falls asleep,
i try not to move,
make sense to me.

blight battles

Our love is like a river
Water flowing out our eyes
These twists and turns that tangle
A never ending surprise

Our love exists in battles
Will we ever win the war
When I take two steps backwards
You take four steps towards the door

Our hate is like an orchard
In desperate need of rain
The withering fruit you dangle
Weighing heavy on my vine

Fast times, pretty things are sowing
the green grass is growing and
illusions are pulling us apart
