We used to be the talk of the town,
Your heart was mine and mine yours,
But you turned around and broke my heart,

dreamt of red roses on my wedding gown,
Perfect moments on world-wide tours,
But all you did was tear me apart;

Many years have passed after that,
That little girl is all grown now,
My heart is fixed and certainly fine

So go find another girl for a fresh start,
I'm gone forever and that's a vow,
Keep your heart while i keep mine.

I take my time to read your poems,
I value the work you put:
I do this without sentiment,
I only value what is cute;

i might never meet you in person
But i have met you here:
Every moment i read your work
Is a beautiful moment we share;

I have learnt from you
Through your write-ups here:
To make out time for us,
Has proven that you care;

Thank you for your efforts
In making this place run:
Your write-ups here
Have really kept us going on;

To those of you who have encouraged me -
I remain sincerely grateful to you:
Your comments, critism, likes and reposts,
Have helped in seeing me through;

I come online always
To be sure there is nothing to miss,
And it always proved worthwhile,
And gives me an emotional bliss;

And if you are new to this place,
I was once like you:
Just continue to contribute
And let your efforts see you through;

So to all of you i mean everyone
So many to mention in one day,
May you always find rest,
Love, peace and prosperity everyday.
I always wanted to take my time to appreciate everyone here on Hp. Including the creators of Hp.
I personally feel like i have made some friends here and sincerely i do not take it for granted. There are names too many to mention but i know that from time to time if i do not see your work, i always to try to reach you to ensure that you doing ok. Thanks all

Your words were like a million needles piercing my skin,
My heart broke into a million pieces like glass droped from a mountain,
My tears flowed night and day like rivers rushing into a sea,
The heat in my brain every night burnt like desert fire in its fury,

I cried but only i heard me cry,
I hurt so badly and wished to die,
My dreams have lied to me again,
It showed me the joy but not the pain,
I became the only sad one in the crowd,
With a million painful thoughts sreaming out loud,

I no longer felt the honey on your lip,
But the knives that cut really deep,
Nor could i find the compassion that once resided on your face,
But the frown and desperation to bring me into a hurtful place,
Your affection for me that once overflowed,
Was nothing but resentment intentionally brewed.

Every night i keep wishing this is a dream,
And trying so hard not to scream,
I keep hoping there would be a chance,
That there will be a place for a little romance,
Or that you will come back to me,
And i'll do better for you and me.
The character represented here is just a work of fiction

An iron fist is dealt the middle east,
Her children are torn by the beast,
While nobles sit and feast;

Disaster has hit her really hard,
The outcome is very sad,
Nobles continue to deal the card;

The game is hard to understand,
You can't tell where her children stands,
If they are deserving of a tough hand;

Some say it is karma,
And once they slaughtered others,
But do they deserve this dharma;

Ashes and smoke of burning flesh fills the air,
Whatever their fault may be - this isnt fair,
Oh how she wishes the world will truely care;

Brace yourselves oh children of the east,
Within your walls are also ravenous beasts,
Who by your anguish have made accounts from which to feast;

So let me show you where you ought to begin,
Your politicians are the beasts within,
Undo with them and you'll begin to win;

Do not be decieved by their sad countenance on tv,
They do all that so that you wouldn't see,
Because when you see then you will be set free.

I might not be completely wrong or right,
But no one goes into anothers house and win a fight,
They must be let in before they can smite.

And external powers fueling this fight,
Remove your hands and do what's right
Aid the east into the peaceful light.
Us
Play like the good girls
paper dolls and plaster
bulletproof glass
and your illusory laughter

Twelve years to the surface
For one cycle of stillness
Choose your weapon
A cure for my sickness

You keep your time
give me back my change
countless tears from empty eyes
Twenty six years of pain

The friend behind the locks
who keeps keys and secrets
I am all you have besides
the cold and the jacket

Doctor, make your monster
something she can love
and I'll be the one to fear
the open door

Haven’t I softened sweetly
mixed in such a lovely hue
to paint something beautiful
for you…always for you

I ground her to dust
and mixed her with blood
and stirred her with moments
and drew her a life

She looked into mirrors
She stayed to your touch
She learned how to whisper
She learned how to lie

Who would it be drowning
****** or suicide
no one knows her but She
and She stays inside

What if i told you,
That the reason why i date you,
Is to make poems of you?

What if i told you,
That i never truely loved you,
Rather i only needed you?

What if i told you,
I gain inspiration by being with you,
And by breaking up with you?

What if i told you,
I write of the things you do,
And the pains you put me through?

What if i told you,
I expect the heart break from losing you,
It helps me get a better point of view?

So forgive me for ever hurting you,
My poetry always comes before you,
Only her do I trust as really true.

The ashes of our loved ones are blown in the wind,
The blood of our siblings fill the streets,
Politicians we elected  rob us, with impunity,
Working tirelessly to reduce us to bits;

They **** our soldiers- our dearly beloved brothers,
Send them to a war which they themselves create,
They have underarmed the soldiers but arm the enemy,
Their callousness and negligence- we cannot underestimate;

Their is no one to speak for us- no one at all,
They sit in their noble seats lobbying for themselves,
They fill their homes with the resources of our people,
While these people are left with little to fend for themselves;

Our educational system has been brought to ruin,
Medical system is now in a deplorable state,
Fund looting is now the order of the day,
To impoverish my people even further is all they debate;

Our security operatives are those that **** us more,
Our hearts are always filled with fear when they come our way,
They maim and **** even when we protest for justice,
Who then should we run to when killers come our way?

The minority among us are disenfranchised,
Jobs belonging to our youths have been stolen away,
Those who create jobs for themseves earn too little to live by,
The pensions of pensioneers are hijacked day by day;

Our bills are on the increase while salaries remain the same,
The salaries of some are slashed day by day,
In the midst these difficulties is the firing of workers,
As wages become burdensome for companies to pay;

I pray that youths like me will open their eyes and see,
That all we have is ourselves not these enemies,
If this lesson is learnt we will quit fighting eachother,
And tolerate one another- finding ways to sustain peace;

Shall this oppression continue while we stand and watch?
No- we will rise and create a new era of representatives?
A people who will be elected from our very own,
People of our own generation to replace these theives.
This explains what Nigerians go through everyday in a nutshell.
