While I would lay on your chest
Your lips pressed against my neck
As your fingertips drew on my back
I would always quietly ask you
What you were writing
You would smile
Which I would feel travel from my throat
To my soul
And gently say my full name
But with your last name

He doesn't burn photographs
He doesn't join therapy sessions
He doesn't smoke too many cigarettes
Nor he drown himself into alcohol
He scratches his wounds daily
And never let them heal
He doesn't try to get rid of the pain
Instead he let it grow on him
He waters the seed of sorrow with his tears
He feeds it with the manure of old memories
He takes it to sleep with him
And nurtures it in himself
Till the moment when every single drop of his blood gets replaced by this pain
Until his fragile heart can bear no more
And his soul starts overflowing with emotions
That's when he dip his pen into this pain
And empty his heart on a piece of paper
He bares his soul for us to feel
He creates poetry that the world would cherish for centuries to come
That's how true poetry comes into existence

With our hands and a light we built a castle to keep us safe,
and hide us from the thoughts of death that haunt us in our sleep

Brick by brick we pushed the demons out of the dark parts of our minds,
with each brick engraved with a poem - that helps us stay alive

With our hands and a light we built a door with a lock,
to let lost souls into our kingdom and to block out the thoughts

Refugees come to the sanctuary to sleep and to stay,
until the sun climbs from behind the trees and starts another day

With my hands and a light I held a paper and a pen,
I wrote a poem to the world to let them know they have a friend

And they can all build castles too,
and feel safe in their thoughts,
remember that you are not alone,
and that it's US against the dark

Her red lips like the roses of a cracking stained glass window
When she leaned in to whisper her secret
The words falling from them like demons through a gate
Into a crumbling church

Into my ear

I had sat in those pews
With zealous eyes and thoughts upon those lip-red roses
But one by one her demons came like whispers
And cracked the red stained window like a breaking heart

I think you told a lie today
about the shadow on your mind.
I think you plan to die today,
and leave these follies far behind.

I wish you would write me a song,
and ink the truth within its verse.
Happy or sad, it's fine, so long
as this does not end in a hearse.
